Can anything be taken away from the Bowdoin-Trinity game? Did Bowdoin's goaltending and defense suddnely become porous? Trinity hits 80% on the PP but has been very average all season. A 10-5 score. Really? I say throw this one out. What may be more significant is the Bantams have to take on Wesleyan again who should have gone 2-0 last weekend and could be a real threat if they have any semblance of a defense show up. Middlebury travels to Amherst again for match-up #3 this season and twice within a week. Panthers have lost 5 in a row to Amherst and are due to break through. Question is, who will start in net for Middlebury. Panthers had a 3-2 lead with 13-mins to play in the 3rd last Saturday but could not hold on. Will Coach Beaney stay with the youngster Peters or go back to fellow soph Dan Fullam? Junior Nick BonDurant hasn't started since January 4th. Is he hurt or has he fallen out of favor? It would not be fair to throw the Freshman Yee into a do or die situation. Bowdoin should handle Hamilton unless the unthinkable happens and the Trinity game really was a foretelling of the future. The other match-up has Williams at home vs a resurgent Colby sqaud who have won 3 in a row and are unbeaten in 6 of their last 7 games. The Mules have come a long way since putting a total of 4 measley shots on goal at Amherst on January 5th. Should be a fun weekend.

I can't see the snow holding things up this weekend. The timing looks like everyone will have plenty of time to get there on Saturday. Going home might be a little sloppy.

For the upcoming NESCAC semifinals, the host institution (Bowdoin) can choose the order of the games. I am surprised that Bowdoin elected to play in the late game giving them fewer hours for their players, assuming they win, to recover for the Sunday final.

Maybe they feel they'll get a better crowd playing the later game.

Check the handbook, but it may be a conference rule to boost attendance in the other game.

No -- the handbook says that the host team gets to decide whether it wants to play at 1:00 pm game or the 4:00 pm game . .

                • NIce touch by Bill Beaney on Saturday holding the bus for a couple of hours so the players could support the basketball team in the NESCAC semifinal game against Williams.

                    NESCAC CHAMPIONSHIP

I'm looking forward to a great championship weekend in Brunswick, Maine. Some quick thoughts:

                    1. In my opinion Bowdoin and Middlebury are the two most talented teams in the league.
                    2. The previous comment doesn't imply that either the Polar Bears on the Panthers will definitely win the championship. Talent alone is not sufficient, and both Williams and Trinity have been playing solid hockey.
                    3. I believe Bowdoin will be done in by the Polar Bears' bad habit of taking bad penalties followed by stupid penalties followed by moronic penalties followed by untimely penalties...
                    4. Trinity is not an interesting team to watch, but it's an efficient team. Matt Greason has done a tremendous job with talent that is quite average. I wouldn't be surprised if Trinity won it all.

Good luck to all the players, coaches, families and fans. The NESCAC championship weekend is Divison III hockey at its best.
