Those kind of calculations will get Bowdoin in trouble - best to focus on winning the next game (Trinity) and to not engage in elaborate calculations as to which team will make the NESCAC finals.

Unless I screwed something up, we have...

      Bowdoin win:
      Hamilton @ Bowdoin
      Colby @ William
      Wesleyan @ Amherst
      Trinity @ Middlebury

      Trinity win OR tie:
      Hamilton @ Bowdoin
      Colby @ Williams
      Wesleyan @ Trinity
      Middlebury @ Amherst

In the event of a Bowdoin-Trinity tie, the head-to-head to break up the 3-team tie is:
      Trinity 3-1
      Amherst 2-2
      Middlebury 1-3

Which yields the same result as a trinity win.

I think Bowdoin sends in the JV team tomorrow. Trinity takes 3rd spot. Why risk injuries? Rest the key guys.

Doubtful, especially since there is no "JV team" to send in!!

Hyperbole with the JV reference, but I think I made the point that the Polar Bears are showing up with the 3rd stringers. Don't buy the theory of playing hard to the bitter end when it's not necessary. Good spot to give some freshman a look.

Though, as stated previously, if they lose tomorrow and lose early in the NESCAC tournament, a pool C bid looks like a long shot. I think they have every reason to go all out for a win tomorrow. Having followed the Bears for over 20 years, this is the team, IMO, that has the best shot to make some serious noise in the NCAA's. Why wouldn't you give it everything you have to make that happen?

Injuries limit the Bears options -- they likely will be coming at Trinity with most of, if not all, the regular line-up. The fourth line may get a few extra seconds here and there but that's about it . .

And there is the opportunity to play at home in the first round of the NCAAs as happened a couple of years ago with Neumann. A loss to Trinity could cost Bowdoin to slip in the seedings for the NCAAs (where every game seems to matter) and send them on the road for the first round.

I think Trinity would dearly like to avoid a match-up against Middlebury as they are 1-1 vs Panthers this season in close games. The same goes for Amherst who have won 5 straight vs Middlebury. The Panthers are a dangerous sqaud at this time of the year home or away. This past weekend not withstanding, Wesleyan would be the preferred match-up for both Trinity and Amherst for round 1 since they are defensively superior to the Cardinals. BTW...the Amherst announcer described the Middlebury uniforms with a Michigan "M" on the front. How does that sit with the Panther faithful??

Absolutely. And to that end the Bears are already fortunate that they picked up an empty net win, rather than a tie, on Saturday when Conn was forced to pull their goalie going for a win to keep their season alive.
