Officially, SUNY is made up of 64 campuses - Eight campuses (including three health science centers) offering academic programs through the doctoral level and serving as research centers, Thirteen university colleges providing undergraduate education in a variety of academic fields, Eight technology colleges focusing on the development of a workforce with the advanced skills required by an increasingly technology-dependent economy, and Thirty community colleges offering access to a wide array of higher education opportunities that prepare students for transfer to senior colleges or train them for a variety of technical or paraprofessional occupations.

The College at Brockport is NOT its legal/official name.

The whole naming thing/governance of SUNY has always confused me, too.

If the governing body is some board of trustees and somehow a head honcho - President/Chancellor/Major Domo - where did some schools, such as Brockport State get the authority to go by different names. The other name that confuse me are in Buffalo. There seems to be a Buffalo State and a State University of Buffalo. Those guy need to get their naming conventions down to something that we mere mortals can understand.

When I was much younger, I did an accreditation visit the the Math Department at Plattsburgh - at that time the school was referred to as Plattsburgh State University College - or PSUC. Who decided to drop the "C" from the name? Is it marketing? Very confusing to us mere mortals

The University Centers (those offering academic programs through the doctoral level and serving as research centers) are the "State University of Wherever" (except the three health science centers - which are named after there approximate geographical location within the state), the ""State University at Wherever" refers to those thirteen university colleges providing undergraduate education in a variety of academic fields (though locally they can use their own "Nicknames" - many of which derive from a time when their primary focus was to train teachers and they were officially known as "Wherever State Normal School").

So they expect mere mortal non-New Yorkers to understand this "of" vs. "at" distinction? What was wrong with PSUC etc.? Who decides to use a name that is different from the "official name"? Since they all are governed by the same board, are the members of that board suffering from DID? (DID is dissociative identity disorder, formerly known as MPD, multiple personality disorder, which is mistakenly confused with schizophrenia which is a totally different disorder).

In Colorado the University of Denver is a private school the University of Colorado at Denver is a public school, and the University of Colorado at Boulder is called CU (or CU Boulder). Why the permutations of the letters is a puzzle to this Vermonter.

            From the Brockport link above:

The change in the expression of the College’s name to The College at Brockport, State University of New York, is intended to bring focus to the College in the context of the State University of New York – one of the largest and most respected educational systems in the world. This is not a legal or an official name change, but one that was approved by the Interim Chancellor John Clark

Just trying to get all this nomenclature straight before the twins want lunch 8 (8 month olds don't like to be delayed in their meal times, unless they prefer to sleep).

Is Brockport a "University College?" with an official name like Brockport State University College, or something else. Furthermore, who decided to request the unofficial name change?

In Vemont, Castleton State College would like the world to forget it is a State College (maybe to dissociate themselves from flying ice balls)

In August 2005, John R. Halstead, PhD became Brockport’s sixth president. President Halstead brought a range of leadership experience to the College, including a seven-year term as president of Mansfield College in Pennsylvania, several vice president positions and post-doctoral work at Harvard University's Institute of Educational Management. Beginning early in his tenure, he met and developed relationships with numerous government, corporate and community leaders to increase Brockport’s visibility in the region, and formed partnerships to further promote student success - AND CHANGED THE SCHOOL"S NAME.

And Castleton State College was forced to drop "State" because they lost to many of the "T"s for their sign's letterboard.

Cortland finally put out their schedule. Though, by now, you had most of it figured out with all the other schedules. All the SUNYAC schools are now released.

Think the NESCAC ought to change the web page???

                          Seeding
Teams will be seeded based on games scheduled in conjunction with ECAC East. The top four seeds will host quarterfinal games with the one seed drawing the 8th seed, the 7th seed will play at the 2nd seed, the 6th seed will play at the 3rd seed, and the 5th seed will play at the 4th seed. The highest remaining seed after quarterfinal action will host both the semifinal and final rounds.
Good to know the interlock is still alive (at least in spirit!)

I think they were scrambling for games (any game) to fill the schedule. Once the dreaded Big Ten Hockey Conference gets going they will have an easier route for scheduling games. Probably won't see Buff State again.
