Re: 2011-2012 UW-Stout Regular Season Thread

Although Stout hasn't had the season they had hoped so far, they have improved their play in the last two weekends splitting each weekend series. A win at Bethel and at UW-River Falls are good stepping stones headed towards the Peters Cup Playoffs. Even the losses at Hamline and at UW-River Falls showed improved skating and play by Stout. Next weekend will be an equally difficult test with the defending national champion St. Norbert coming to the Dunn Co. Friday and the two teams will meet at the Xcel Energy Center for Hockey Day Minnesota.

Following a tough weekend of games against the Defending National Champions St. Norbert (4-1 Friday and 2-1 Saturday) Stout showed that they can hang with the top teams in the conference. If the effort is shown by every man in the locker room it has been proven that we can take SNC to the brink (lead both games, Saturday led until the middle of the 3rd Period). With the upcoming games against UW-Superior and St. Scholastica, Stout can get a valuable 4 points in conference and continue to gain confidence going towards the Peters Cup Playoffs.

BetterinLakePlacid, did you see the game? Although it was 4-1 Stout did put together a tough first 2 periods and it was closer than the score shows.

This weekend Stout will return to action at the Dunn County Ice Palace with NCHA games against UW-Superior Friday at 7:30pm and St. Scholastica Saturday at 4pm. It will be interesting to see who Stout starts in goal this weekend or if he will split time between Lescovich and Hopper. Also interested to see who gets into the lineup as far as forwards, since they have been changing lines regularly in the recent weeks.

After a very good start for Stout our season comes to an end in St. Scholastica in OT. It has been a very up and down season but with the majority of the team coming back and having another year of experience next season should be very promising. I also have to say I am going to miss seeing Alex Breeden, Mike Morgan, Joel Whited, and Branden Gay out there and wish them luck in their future en devours. And until then at least hockey isn't done yet, I always look forward to the NCAA Hockey Tournament

Hearing through the grapevine Stout is looking for a replacement for Terry Watkins. Although he had a great career as coach, its time for a change in Menomonie.
