NCAA goes on to tweak the rules so this doesn't happen again (need to be over .500 to be a tuc, no upgrade for conf qualiers).
Thank you for the explanation. I had heard that you had to be over .500 to be a TUC, but I never knew the background / history. Much appreciated.
Go Red!!
National Champions: 1954, 1985, 201x
Houston Field House, Cheel Arena, Agganis Arena, Magness Arena, Ritter Arena, Messa Rink, Matthews Arena, Von Braun Center, Lynah Rink, Starr Rink, Appleton Arena, Dwyer Arena, Buffalo State Ice Arena, Kelley Rink (also Verizon Center (DC), HerbBrooksArena, Fenway Park (Frozen Fenway I), Times Union Center, DCU Center, Blue Cross Arena)
And rounding out the teams that have never made the NCAA Tournament, is Army. The Black Knights were ranked as the best program to not appear in an NCAA Tournament (D-1 of course). Army has a long history, which obviously helped its case. FWIW, the formula kicked out the rankings like this, and I never had a preset intention to rank the non-NCAA Tourney teams at the bottom.
#51 Army - 1.3604 points
#52 Union - 0.6174 points
#53 UConn - 0.1921 Points
#54 Sacred Heart - 0.1703 Points

#56 Robert Morris - .0245 points
#57 Canisius - .0205 points
#58 American International - .0061 points
So we've reached the Top 50...#50 will be revealed shortly.
North Dakota National Champions: 1959, 1963, 1980, 1982, 1987, 1997, 2000, 2016
They must have lost points for never having jerseys for sale.
So much anger!!! Where is my jersey?

Coming in at #50 is the UAH Chargers. UAH, the southernmost college hockey program, has plenty of history and tradition over the last 20+ years. They managed to make the NCAA Tournament twice, in 2007 and 2010. In 2007 they pushed #1 Notre Dame to the brink, losing in 2OT. The Chargers have their work cut out for them in the future. They are currently looking for a conference to play in, but when they find one, expect the Chargers to be more than a bottom dweller.

The Mavericks are one of a few teams that has a D-1 History that doesn't stretch too long. Mankato though, has made an NCAA Tournament, and as many WCHA foes know, they are very difficult to play against. Playing against so many former champions in the WCHA has allowed Minnesota State to pick up 75 victories against former NCAA Champions. If they can string together more seasons like '03, they'll be moving up this list in the future. For now though, the Mavs are #49.

Still, they have had chances to play former champs that way.

The Mavericks made their lone appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2006, but that looks to change this year. Of the teams in the bottom 1/3 of this ranking, the Mavericks had the best winning percentage against former NCAA Champions (42.7%). If the Mavericks make a run in the NCAA Tournament they will most likely move up this offseason. For now, they are #48.
