I don't consider that longtime assistants like Cavanaugh and Mel are still being looked at as potential HCs. It isn't a case of Hill where they have quit on the one chance that they had to be a HC.

For me, the fear of taking the MTU job is that if you fail you'll never get another chance at being a HC.

So you would consider Mel a career asst?

23 years as an assistant coach? That's a LONG time. I understand why Tech would want him, but many teams considering hiring a first-time head coach will want someone younger, more energetic, and more ambitious. Long time assistants start to look like damaged goods.

Think this post will get updated more today? Long slow road this time but find it interesting. Same goes for the coaches list.

                They were REALLY good wins.

The real reason is that Minnesota Duluth won that national championship, and Michigan Tech owns UMD historically.

Awesome! Need to start earning more points on their own...not based on other's success!

Yeah just what I was thinking and then saw LSSU earned about squat. Tech beat UMD?

Very true. If they continue to have single digit win seasons, they will drop. They will need to make more NCAA tournaments, perhaps win some conference hardware, and have winning seasons to stay in the top 10.

Not this season, but historically, Tech has about a 40 game advantage over Minnesota Duluth.

UMD has many all time series like that. UND and UMTC come to mind.

Yeah, there were a few teams that really lucked out by Duluth winning it all. I don't think Duluth minds that too much though.
