OMG...misguided youth..I have been at nearly every home NU game since my playing days in the the eary 1980's. Let's not be so quick to make Freshman into NHL prospects...

Our best player and if anyone can argue that there was a better player on this team than Steve Quailer, you don't know **** about hockey! He was Cronin's driving cog in the 1st line. He is a unique combo of pure scoring potential with NHL size and speed, who can stick handling through transition. He is out as a result of a cheap hit in an exhibition game.

He will have another year of academic eligibility....as a result. Yes, it's perhaps the greatest FROSH class in history..but if we win 15 games we will be lucky and 20 a blessing from the Gods.

Just about anyone would rather go to a game at Mathews than that institutional embarassment in Watertown.

This my last post in this thread..

Its tough that Bentley lost that gm to Quinnipiac in OT.. i read the head coach's comments (QU's that is).. he felt Bentley outplayed them most of the gm, but tough break in OT. I still think you guys (Falcons) have a decent club. Skated well at NU too. G'luck

There was a decent showing in Hamden yesterday as well.

The #18 Quinnipiac men defeated Bentley today 3-2. The QU women defeated Northeastern 1-0 in boston today as well. Go bobcats !

I didn't think it was as horribly played as RossiRules did even though that's a great NU screen name. If only the current students could have watched him mix it up. As I mentioned in another thread I really liked Vrolyk and Vermeessch even though the latter almost seemed to dangle at times. That only allows the D to set back up at this level.

Bentley seemed the same type of team as last year. A lot of posters thought last years game was closer than the score but I thought otherwise. This year wasn't much different except Calvi played pretty solid in net for them. Let's hope everyone continues to develop and nobody else gets hurt.

..yeah & UNH is goig to be ready after having played a super speedy Miami of OH team last night (UNH lost 6-3). And they're going against them again tonight (..g'luck Wildcats).

Nevertheless, they will be ready for a NU team that just came off a gm with Bentley. We'd better prepare hard for them nxt & Lowell right after.

Again, i think that gm last night could/should've ended in a tie.. it would perhaps light the fire we need!

It's official Steve Quailer is out for the year.
This year's frosh class is the coaches' best.
Alex Tuckerman is hurt (minor injury) and Chris Donovan is sick.
I thought that Matt Lipinski player very well, as did Randy Guizor.
Chiris Rawlings made too many passes to the Bentley players.
The Frosh D men are terrific; Chris Student is a smaller, but faster version of Drew Muench; and Jake Newton has NHL potential.
NU's best forward is number 9, and I don't mean the best frosh forward. #9
plays at a diffferent level than the other forwards. If he stays healthy and doesn't turn pro, I perdict that he will be NU's next All American.

I too didn't think we played purely. We controlled the puck for most of the game, Bentley's goalie made several very good saves. Rawlings was...eh. He played well for 99% of the third, 30% of the 2nd and 0% of the first. Reminded me of the 1st CC game. I think I'm really going to like Jake Newton, but he needs to tighten up a little in his own end.

Robbie Vrolyk continued to look great, he's bound to put some goals away this year. The Daniels brothers were largely invisible with the exception of the early (atrocious) goal that somehow found the back of the net.

Ultimately, I don't think we played poorly, but if we play like this against UNH, we're going to have problems. We aren't clearing pucks from the slot after rebounds like we were last year, we aren't bodying people in the corners like we were last year and we aren't pressuring the puck on the PK as well as we were last year.

Not bad, but not great; I'll take the win.

I believe that he was out for the same reason as Donovan... sick.

They had a ton of steals and good plays whenever Bentley had the puck. Rawlings looked good in the second and third (especially on Bentley's 5x3 and right afterward). So I see nothing to be discouraged about.

BTW: does anyone know why Tuckerman didn't play?

i was sitting directly behind the penalty box area and had a pretty good view of the monitor the officials were reviewing the goals on..... i dont know why that first bentley goal was disallowed. i was looking over the refs shoulder and other people were crowding around as well so i didnt have the greatest view, but it looked like a goal to me. i did find it funny they decided to review all of the visiting teams goals though. but i bet it had more to do with hockey east wanting to use their new equipment more than anything else. i hope they figure out when they should and shouldnt be reviewing plays because it was a little much last night.

i agree with those that said NU looked less than impressive. they controlled the puck for long stretches but failed to create any real solid scoring chances. they were not as dominant during 5 on 5 play as they should have been. i also think the bentley goalie looked better than rawlings, he seems pretty uncomfortable out there.

all in all happy with the win. the freshman look good. i think this team will get better as the year goes on and we will hopefully get quailer back which will only help

This very well could have been a tied game.. or worse for us.
Sorry that I could not get to the game last night, but glad that my Falcons made a game of it. USCHO report says that both reviews said the goals were kicked in. Hope that playing teams like the Huskies early in the season helps us again later this season, like tonight at Quinnipiac.
