  • Re: CHA Thoughts and Prognostications: Year 11, The Finale...

My wife and I watched the Saturday BSU game on the internet, and wow, BSU looks like a different team than last year. My wife even made that comment how they look so much crisper and "in sync" with each other. Granted, the games have been against Air Force and Northern, but the Green looks to be picking up right where they left off last year. If the goaltending can hold up, and I don't see why it shouldn't after watch three of the four games, this team could be scary for others out there.

As for the whole football vs. hockey debate, they are both BSU sports and I will choose to support them both. Compared to where the football team was at when I was at BSU (the Diaz era of the 90s), this is heaven! Both bring students and money into the university, and when both are successful, both will bring in more $$$$ than before!

I hear the hockey championships committee is looking to reinstate the automatic bid for the top independent team starting next year.

          Sucks for you.

The little bit of "sympathy" I had for your program goes out the window this weekend!

WE HATE HUNTSVILLE! Should be an interesting series though!

The guys who played are more likley to give back (at least directly to the athletic department) than those who sat in the stands, and since football's always gonna win that battle out of sheer numbers, that alone makes the success of the football program importaint to a university's overall athletic success.
There's a secondary argument as well:

When RMU's former President, Dr. Nicholson signed off on adding 5 new sports to the Athletic Department, the decision was made to increase the University's ACADEMIC recruiting base.

Before Lacrosse, Field Hockey, and Ice Hockey were added, do you think anyone in Alberta, Ontario, California, or Washington (state of) had ever heard of Robert Morris? We've had graduates from all of the above - not just the athletes, but friends and family members as well.

Then add parents making trips to see the kids play, girlfriends buying tickets, or donations being made to the program.

Robert Morris is the #3 school in this town -- if we're THAT lucky. We certainly don't draw students (as ticket buying fans) based on what is offered by the Athletic Department. Even being the only school in Southwest PA that offers NCAA hockey.

Really? Is this possibly a way to draw schools into college hockey who otherwise wouldn't join because of no conference affiliation?
