Agreed...IIRC, last year's club would almost always outshoot the opponent - often by a wide margin. I'd say that's about as good of an indicator of time of possession as anything, and obviously if you are in control of the puck a majority of the time, you have a better shot at winning games...

Maybe the Badgers should play more offense than defense.

I'm as disappointed as the next guy (or gal), but to use words like pathetic because we lost a road game in the WCHA makes me really scratch my head.
I think UW is much better than their record (although I'm a bit concerned about the goaltending right now) and that's why it's disappointing. I use the word "pathetic" because I feel that after going through such a tough stretch they would come out guns blazing and control the games this weekend (starting last night) start to finish and so far they're 0-1 which is not at all what I expected. If SOG is a decent indicator of time of possession it appears UAA kind of outgunned UW. UAA is 2-3 notches down from Nodak/Minn/UMD. I don't know.

I most definitely expected a sweep, as well as *at least* a 6-2 record if not 7-1 through this stretch leading to Duluth. They just dug a hole where this is going to be very difficult to accomplish.
Everything in its right place, Wisconsin Hockey National Champs!

If I've said it once I'll say it 100 times. Expecting a road sweep in the WCHA is ridiculous. I hoped for one, hell I predicted one, but to expect it is only setting yourself up to be disappointed. Especially since Anchorage isn't a bad team this year. I'm not sure if anyone has checked the standings, but UAA is ahead of us in the WCHA.

Goaltending was not your teams problem last night, lack of offense was. If it weren't for a stellar, and I mean STELLAR performance by your goalie the Badgers would have been down by several goals instead of just one.

UAA did have possession in the UW zone for long periods of time. As far as UAA being 2-3 notches down from UND or UM, I disagree. UAA has already played the Sioux in a non-conference game, and tied them 5-5. We have not yet played the Gophers this season, but I feel this UAA team is fully capable of beating them as well.

"According to NCAA, the (UAF) hockey team used ineligible players in every game played from the 2007-08 season to the 2010-11 season. Over that span, the wins and ties will all become losses. 4 wins and 2 ties came against rival UAA".

            UAF is 56-86-12 vs. UAA.

Eaves went with Goody again a "must win" game, juts like the Saturday UND and UMD games. This time it worked out, though against a lesser opponent.

UAA at some point was going to break that long losing streak to UW, and it finally happened. Even a blind gopher falls in a hole once and awhile. Which bodes well for UW breaking the OT streak. At some point. In the future. Maybe the far far away future. Maybe our gopher is blind and paralyzed and his wheelchair won't fit into the hole. Maybe he doesn't have a wheelchair and his buddies forgot to feed him and now he's just a little furry frozen carcass in someone's lawn. We're screwed. Moral of the story: You can't depend on a gopher for anything (other than to annoy the &*^&* out of you); not even to beat the landcows.

The Friday loss, when you think about it, isn't a total shock when you take into consideration how many of the lads had never made the trek from WI to AK. Obviously they were not ready to go, being outshot (outshot=outworked) like they were.

So is 6-0 too much to hope for? Probably. But if they lose to Canisius I'm going back on thinner.

Good to bounce back last night. As for Friday's loss, I understand it's a bunch of young guys making a long trip. What's frustrating is it really wasn't our young guys who lost it for us, or at least not all by themselves they didn't. We have a power play with under 2 minutes left in the third, so worst case we should be going to OT, and Gardiner takes a silly penalty. That's not a youthful mistake.

Ah well. How about a sweep of Bemidji eh?

Shots on goal and converting on powerplays made all the difference last night. Hopefully they sweep Bemidji next weekend.

1 down, 6 to go? I certainly hope so.

good win, especially coming after a lackluster performance.

It seems lately that our scoring depth has been limited to the top line. Mostly our top 2 Dmen have been scoring, which isn't a good sign. If we are going to go on a 7 games winning streak the 2nd and 3rd line need to start putting a couple in the back of the net. Also, have we got a 4th line goal since the Mich Tech or was it the Huntsville series? I have only been able to watch one series (UND series) this year due to being completely out of the college hockey TV market and the 3rd and 4th line were no where to be found. What do people think who watch them every weekend about the 3rd and 4th line?

It depends what you consider the 3rd and 4th lines. On the line chart the Lee/Barnes/Mersch line is #3, but scoring wise they give a lot more offense than the Dolan/Little/Johnson line which is slotted as #2. The Dolan line hasn't scored a lot lately, but that really isn't their job. They are out there to shut down/slow down the opponents top line, and for the most part are doing a good job of it. As for the 4th line, considering that most of the season that line has been all freshman, I don't expect them to score much. Clark and Dahl have been out there regularly and joined by Hartzog or S Little or now Turnbull. I think that line has improved a lot as the season has gone on. Clark and Dahl are looking a lot more confident, but they don't get many shifts, usually because of the penalty happy WCHA idiots w/ the orange arm band.

I think as the season goes on, Clark and Dahl are going to add some offense, but that isn't their job either on the 4th line. Dolan is having a nice season despite his defensive role.

I agree more scoring from more places would be good, but the team, overall, is scoring at a nice clip considering how many young players on are on the team, and how much offense is now in the AHL/NHL.

I thought Clark, especially, looked real good in the Saturday night UMD game. Mersch is one of those guys I can't stand watching, since he's such a terrible skater, but he always seems to be in the right spot at the right time.

And while I agree we can't expect much out of these freshmen on the 4th line, pretty much every good team that has gone anywhere had 4 solid lines. I don't think UW has that now, so I'm really not expecting them to do anything other than play like the very average team they are...and when they play better than average, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

What a highly lucid and astute observation! Impressive! To be topped ONLY by saying, "Maybe the Badgers should score more goals than their opponent!"

We don't need scoring out of the fourth line we just need them not to get scored on. This season Clark-Dahl-Turnbull are all +1. That means they are doing thier job. Any scoring we get out of them is a bonus.
