It's the clone of Sheperd!" sits behind me again this weekend I will punch him in the throat and then present him with this list of referees and linesmen so, if a Sheperd is not on the ice he will at the very least be able to boo the right refs.

        Thoughts...

        • What a horrible hockey game. No flow from either team.

        • Had 18 minutes of pp and managed 5 shots. They probably had that many short handed shots. VERY frustrating, but give them credit as they were very active on the pk.

        • Our blue liners really had terrible nights in the offensive zone. Even Gardiner looked bad and Rammer looked like he was somewhere else. Only bright spot was Simonelli turning it on and hitting everything that moved after he got boarded. Just can't believe how bad Gards and Rams were tonight but everyone can have an off night I guess.

        • Too many passes to players who weren't open or would hesitate when they got the puck. This was a night that screamed for shooting and crashing the net as even when passes were right to guys, they were flubbing.

        • Smith and Zengerle each had a couple of almost jaw-dropping rushes but couldn't finish and that was it for our good scoring chances.

        • Mersch was invisible. Just an observation, I know he's young and that will happen from time to time.

        • Goody was stellar. The shot that beat him was pretty wicked. He maybe could have saved it, but it was perfectly placed.

Frustrating game for sure. 18 minutes on the pp...

Tomorrow's another day and we should see a different effort.

The second and third periods were so awful I had honestly forgotten about Smith's rush, that was pretty good.

Agreed. We just didn't have it tonight. That's going to happen from time to time. Goody almost stole one for us. We'll get em tomorrow.

And of course I'd rather have UW's 1 championship during that time than all those FF appearances UND had, but that's another debate you probably don't want to get into (since so many like to march out the "6>5" with the Gophers...).

Hey, I'm as big of a Badger fan as anybody, but the fact is NoDak has had more success than UW overall. I know logic doesn't play well around here, but there you have it.

EDIT: And to specifically answer your question...yes, it's better to make the playoffs and then choke than to not make the playoffs at all. If you never make the playoffs you don't have much of a chance at a championship. Would you have preferred UW didn't even make the playoffs last year than lay the egg they did in the championship game?
Actually, I understand your point perfectly, chief...
As far as Im concerned, its a fail either way. Making the playoffs doesnt mean much if you dont win it all. As someone on here once said, "around here, we only count national championships".
If you want to consider NoDak to be a better hockey program than the UW, ummm......ok. Last time I checked, theres more Badgers in the NHL than there are Sioux.

That shot was wicked. For a lefty, that shot is almost impossible to put in the net. You could rerun that play 10 times and Id bet he only puts it in the net 1 out of 10 times.
Bottom line, Sue made just enough plays to win and the Badgers didnt capitalize on the chances they had. Hopefully we see a better effort tonight, but considering Sue is expected to be a Frozen Four team this year, Im OK with the Badgers only giving up 1 goal.

that was one good old-fashioned *** kicking by the sioux.

UW wasn't in this game from the drop of the puck.

Gardiner and Schultz were beaten repeatedly. Simonelli and Faust need more minutes to get used to what it takes at this level

Turnbull isn't up to playing w/Smith and Zengerle. he just doesn't have the creativity, and doesn't make sharp enough passes or quick enough decisions

Smith...that was a stupid penalty. just uncalled for and bizarre

                    highlights were few

Gudmanson did what he could. Ratty Johnson played well I thought. Barnes, Mersch and Zengerle had moments (I actually think they should be on a line together)

I'd like to see what Clark can do w/more minutes

overall after watching the sux for 2 consecutive games, they're WAY beyond what BU is and it's hard to fathom they lost any games thusfar.

I hope UW gets them in the WCHA playoffs

Yup, that pretty much sucked. I guess at least Bucky got 2 goals out of it and honestly, the score could have been a lot higher if Gudmanson hadnt been on his game this weekend. I dont know why Eaves played him again on Saturday (other than maybe because he played so well on Friday) but you could tell that he was absolutely exhausted by the 3rd period and gave up some pretty soft goals.
Once again, the refs missed a bunch of calls and let a lot of the goonery slide. As for Smith, that NoDak player said something to him right before he shoved the net because after he dislodged the net, he tried to go after said NoDak player.
Oh well, its pretty much the result I expected with a team of underclassman going up against a team that is expected to make the Frozen Four.
I gotta admit though, I did love the, "this is NASCAR" chant by the student section. You gotta love the Crease Creatures!

Those were 2 very difficult games to sit thru'; not because we lost 2, but the way they were lost. MCRJr and I sat next to some nice susie fans on Friday and they agreed that was quite a boring game. Plain and simple......we were the students sitting back and watching.

Goody had a nice weekend....he deserved better.

                        MCR's Commentary:

*Those of you who know me, know that I'm not a feel good, huggy-kissy, PC kind of guy, BUT the few of the *******s booing on Friday was a bunch of bull****. I don't boo college athletes.

*The student section continues to amaze me. As usual, it was the most full section, both nights, at the drop of the puck. The slackers that attend football games and don't show up until the 2nd quarter could learn from them.

                            Awesome call.

Didn't see a whole lot of the games, I was out of town with the wifey-poo on a ditch the kids long weekend. Obviously, I didn't miss much, but what I saw sucked. I happened to see the Friday sue goal. Someone fell asleep over there for UW and then a perfect shot. Saturuday, I saw the bizarre Smith penalty. No player, let alone a Captian, should ever take a penalty as freaking dumb and stupid as that. I could type a 1000 word paragraph, but it couldn't convey how furious I was/am. Smith should turn in the "A" and sit a few games.

The Timothy A clan will be at the Friday night game against UMD, I want to see some good hockey. I'm not dropping $100.00 to see a replay of this last weekend. I have a feeling Eaves will have the boys ready to go.

Yeah, what he was doing was trying to throw the net at the guy.

That penalty killed us; we actually had some momentum at that point. I will say this for Smith, though. He was up near the head of the handshake line at the end of the game.
