      Oh, really?

I suppose that you could have been talking about the Ice Capades......or maybe minor league hockey?

Maybe/Maybe not....but then you can answer for all of us...put down what you want or think...I don't care. But this Project in Bangor has more or less gotten under your skin....does it have to do with your Vision or Common sense 101.

I'd be willing to bet that I've surveyed a lot more voters in Bangor than you have, especially since I was actually IN Bangor today and am most days. Why do you even care about this if you don't even live here and are certainly not volunteering to have your own taxes raised to pay for it? Where do you get the right to look down on Bangor voters because they don't want to do something you aren't going to do either? Isn't there something in San Diego you could obsess about instead? You don't have to answer that out loud, just figure out what it is and obsess quietly!

It's much bigger than the Bangor arena issue.........the whole way that the State of Maine has been run (into the ground) for the last 30 years has gotten under my skin. Obviously, there are some that are OK with being ranked close to or at #50 in just about everything related to the business climate in the state........and the fact that Maine has become a BIG TIME welfare state (Mississippi of the North). Every new development recently has been fought tooth and nail (wind power, arenas, casinos, hospitals).......seems like the only things that no one has a problem with are new Wal-Marts and Dunkin Donuts. People in the state need to get a clue......hopefully, LePage can kick some *ss!

I'd say that you are making big ASSumptions about things in Bangor. I have gambled at Hollywood Slots A LOT......which means that I have contributed more toward this new arena than any Bangor taxpayer that has not gambled there. I don't look down on anyone........and I doubt that you have surveyed more than a few of your friends. Maybe you should join "stall ball" Bob Cimbolek and his sorry petition campaign to keep Bangor in a time warp circa 1950.............by the way, who has stated that Bangor residents will be financing this new arena???.......a link would be nice......thanks.

Rather humorous that someone who says he lives in San Diego says it's ME who's assuming things about Bangor, after all I live right in the area and have many friends and relatives living in Bangor and I'm there just about every day.

You haven't contributed anything to the new arena because it hasn't even been decided it's going to be built. Even if it is, only a small percentage of the money you managed to lose playing slots would end up paying for the arena, a very small percentage of the amount that Bangor property owners will have to contribute over the life of the loan. Besides unless you are trying to argue that every tourist who comes to Bangor and loses money playing slots should have a voice in whether the city undertake a major construction project like this, your losing money there is irrelevant.

It's common knowledge here who pays for all Bangor city projects, unless they are for something that's eligible for federal or state money, no link needed. If you lived here you'd probably read/hear the local news and would already know that there has been no talk of the feds or state coming forward with any cash. If private investors wanted to build a big new arena, that would be great, but it's not the case. Bangor taxpayers will be responsible for the cost of the thing, and know that any "guarantees" of income from HS could fall through, leaving the taxpayers holding the bag for the whole amount and that's why most locals I've talked to are against it.

I didn't like cimbolleks boring style of basketball any more than you did, but I do think it's only right that those who will ultimately be responsible for paying for this project be the ones who decide if they want to take on that debt or not. If you feel strongly about this issue, I'm sure you've heard the old saying, put up or shut up, so I suggest you buy some property in Bangor and declare it as your legal residence and vote!

Again.....you are using the same, sorry scare tactics that Casinos NO! and every other Keep-Maine-in-the-Dark-Ages person and organization uses. Thankfully, people are starting to smarten up to the fact that a few nimrods should not hold the rest of the state hostage because of their half-baked agendas. I know more about Maine and Bangor than you think......we'll leave it at that. By the way, how many Bangor residents (you know......the ones that actually work) are employed by Husson, Bangor Savings, Hollywood Slots, Cianbro, Bangor Daily News, Bank of America, Camden National Bank, Ramada Inn, Sargent Corporation, Webber Energy (among many others)......they all support this project.

I have a feeling Maine better be ready for next's weekend trip to Providence, hopefully some time off will heal the sting of the BC weekend.....time to start another winning streak.

I'm not using any scare tactics at all, just stating that the people who are going to have to cough up the dough should be the ones to make the decision. Why does that seem controversial to you? Do you not think they're smart enough to know how to spend their own money and need someone from San Diego, who claims he knows more about Bangor than we think, to tell them? I know lots of people in Bangor who work for the corporations you mention and almost none of them are for this project. The "nimrods" who own/run the companies they work for may support it, but the workers I know don't, and since it's the taxpaying workers who will end up paying for this, they should be the ones to decide. I really have to wonder why you waste your time worrying about this if you don't even care enough about this area to live here. Why not worry about things in the community where your own priorities have led you to spend your life and let Maine people worry about things in OUR community? I'm all for private development and completely oppose Casinos NO and their agenda. If someone wants to build a casino in every town in Maine, as long as they meet local zoning and do it with their own money, it's OK with me, but that's not what we're talking about here. Besides knowing a lot more about Maine than anyone would ever suspect (ever wonder why it seems that way to you?), you DO understand the difference between public and private construction projects and who is responsible for paying for them?

Thought you might want to know that a new Tim Hortons opened in Lincoln this past week.

And Like you, I would love to be able to move back IF the people and politicians could allow anything positive to happen, but NIMBY

so the choice is live in Bangor and earn $35,000-50,000 or stay in SD and earn $225,000-$400,000 doing the SAME WORK (that is the pay comparison for MY line of work) (and I hate to even write this, because the people in Maine I tell this to cannot even comprehend it)
hey sandi, how come you chose California? (and I DO remember you saying that you were moving back a while ago)

                          Here's a trivia question.
What was Fairchild's reason for opening up shop in South Portland?
The answer will make you proud to be a Mainer.

All of them will make money off it(except for Webber, they 'll be lucky to be in business) so of course they support it.

If you build it, they will come !! You see, therein lies the problem. Who wants 'em

Oh yeah, it will get built. It has to. Its the ole pay me now or pay me later. As much as the love of bounceyball has a long history in that area, its kind of ludicrous that that old goliath hasnt been replaced yet. If the city of Bangor wants to maintain its 'position' asthe hub of that area, they have no choice. Make it immediately available to hockey, though, is an optional choice....I can see why they will make it hockey capable instead of hockey ready with money being tight.
I believe in equality of effort. In life, in hockey in everything.
