    The Without a Peer blog is putting it about an 80% chance that RPI can get in.

      All favorites winning would get RPI in. All upsets would get RPI in. From there, there's a number of other possibilities. RPI's season thread has a bit more detail, and although it's a longshot (mainly due to the fact we're not there yet), I think it's still a realistic possibility.

Not to mention, if an establishment were to step up, they might be identified as the unofficial watering hole of Union Hockey.
        The Garnet Blades are organizing an on campus selection show event starting Sunday a.m. at 11:00 with team members and coaches likely to be present. I'll get the details out as soon as they are available.

          1. Winning the Cleary Cup;
          2. Winning ECAC Championship;
          3. Playing (not necessarily winning game) in the NCAA's?

          Maybe circumstance is dictating this, but vote for no. 3. Any other thoughts.
          I'm not a Union fan, but my perspective on this would be #2. Playing in the NCAAs is essentially a result of #1 or #2. If you won the ECAC regular season, you're highly unlikely to miss the NCAAs as an at-large unless you really tanked hard in your out of conference schedule. But why would you be super excited about making the NCAAs and not winning a game? How psyched were you when you got the #1 seed for the ECAC playoffs and lost? I'm betting not all that thrilled.

          Postseason hardware is everything, at every level of sports. The ECAC is the most competitive conference in all of college hockey, and hoisting that trophy is something that makes everything better. I say this as a Clarkson fan who saw the 2004 team lose in the ECAC final, the 2007 team win the cup and then lose in the NCAAs. The NCAA loss sucked, but it wouldn't have been nearly as bad as losing the title game again, and it certainly wasn't as amazing a feeling as it was both times we were there in Albany. When some of the historically top teams in the conference only have 5 or 6 conference titles in 50 years, you must appreciate how important that title really is. Nothing in the world beats the feeling of hoisting a trophy over your head, whether it's little league baseball, high school soccer, college hockey, or the Lombardi trophy.

            It's nice, but I compare it to the NHL's President's Trophy. I watched my Sabres roll through the 2006-07 regular season, win a couple of playoff series, but get knocked out before the Cup finals. No doubt a great season, but there's still a sting that they didn't finish it off.

            With what this program has gone through (heartbreaking/excruciating losses, 3-win seasons), an ECAC title would have been the pinnacle. I figured before last weekend that Union would likely still get an NCAA bid even if they lost 2 of 3 to Colgate, so I wanted the ECAC title.

                Ironically, I will be watching the live selection show from the house I rented in Atlantic City. Still depressed about that.

                          Wow, a couple days away because you're upset about the games means four pages of reading to do. Besides the fact that this post is a little late, there really isn't much left for me to comment on the current tournament status since it has been hashed and rehashed above. What I wanted to ask was if anyone at Sunday's game saw how intensely a couple of the players put their bodies on the line?

                          Specifically I'm talking about Brock, Pallos and Juice (Julseth-White). It was mentioned earlier that we played more like we were trying not to lose, rather than trying to win, which did seem the case. But there were several clutch blocks and plays made by those three guys and they had the crowd roaring! Pallos' sliding dive save, when Keith lost the puck in between his legs/pads, was amazing. Brock and Juice has several blocked shots when Keith didn't seem to be ready/ didn't look like he knew where the puck was, as well as several pucks they managed to turn over against the boards. From the student section right next to the goal, those plays were awesome to watch and its because of guys making moves like those that kept us in the game for as long as we were. Often after saves like those, the team got amped up and was able to put the pressure back on Colgate until another penalty came along. (Those happened quite often. I was worried that the rink's taunting the reffs didn't help any..)

                          Keith's playing was mentioned by several posters and it was difficult to watch. Sometimes, he was on top of his game, stopped some awesome shots and several one-on-one's, but then he did let in soft goals. Sunday's third goal was a fluke. It was in the air, then it wasn't. Keith didn't even know it had gone in at first. Even from next to the goal, we had no clue how that had happened. I hate to say this cause Keith is a great guy, but I don't think he's ready to go pro yet. If he can't handle all of the pressure of an ECAC semi-final tournament game and if he can't stop some of those softer goals, then one more year in the ECAC with Union certainly won't hurt. In fact, I think it would help. But that could just be me secretly wishing he stays for at least one more year.

                          Overall though, it was a very hard series to watch and Colgate did outplay us for several long sections. It's upsetting as a fan that with an atmosphere like there was, when we were out-skating them and out-playing them, that we couldn't get the puck in the goal. It is amazing the distance this team has come just in my four years at Union. I realize compared to others, I'm an amateur fan, but I love Union College hockey and I'm so excited to see it develop, both through the rest of this season and in the future.

                            The third goal deflected off of Mat Bodie.
