ADK, great job and thanks for the recruiting update. I think it is unlikely that Luke Cain will be back next season as it would cost him and his family a lot of money to play hockey after I assume he will have been awarded his degree. Luke is a class kid and we can only imagine the work and determination it took to come back from that horrible injury his first year. If next year's newcomers can come close to matching the recent groups, particularly the last two, then Union's future should be very good.

As far as this weekend, it's imperative that Union starts scoring more often going against league opponents. The defense and goaltending has been generally solid and have given the team a chance to win just about every game, but I'd like to see a bit more offensive production to increase the margin for error. I'm assuming that Ingoldsby will still be unavailable so the d-corps is very thin and can't afford to see any more of the group go down to injury.

U is still undefeated at home this season so here's hoping that record remains intact this weekend.

This season? Heck, it feels like a whole new season. It's been forever since we've had "normal" play. Let's go ECAC!

What's the availability for Union/Clarkson tickets going to look like this weekend? Are your students on campus? I'm thinking about making the drive but haven't decided yet, and if I can't get tickets to both Clarkson games I probably won't go.

The Clarkson game is generally well attended because of all the alums in the area. Best to contact the box office at 518-388-6020. Students are on campus but there are only a limited number of student, i.e. free tickets for each game so that shouldn't be a factor. I would guess there will be tickets available but again to be safe, I would call and reserve them.

Nice to start 8 straight weeks of ECAC play with a win! I thought we played a really physical, tough game last night...looking forward to tonight!

I thought it was one of those games where Union could have easily fallen asleep and let SLU sneak out of there with a win. They played a good, physical game and kept SLU from getting too many scoring chances. Congrats to Adam Presizniuk for becoming the all-time D1 scorer!

Does anyone know why Stephane Boileau was not in the lineup? Healthy scratch? Injury?

Agree with your analysis. Both teams played hard, the big difference may have been Union's PK which held SLU to 0 for 6. As far as SB, he has not been playing that much the past month or so. I think it's probably a coach's decision.

Gotta love the Clarkson score, particularly after they beat R.P.I.!

Wow...I'll bet the same people who thought the Seahawks would beat the Saints also thought Union would rout Clarkson (again). As they say - THAT'S why they play the games.

That had to be Union's most dominant performances over a solid Division 1 team that I've ever seen. I have to admit, though...after the 22-shot first period where Karpowich stood on his head, I saw visions of Clarkson sneaking a couple of shots past Kinkaid and gaining some momentum.

However, I was impressed at how Union kept the pressure on and put away the tired (4 games in 6 nights) Clarkson squad. Kinkaid kept focus and made some solid saves - one spectacular. I was also pleasantly surprised at the 4th line all weekend. Kyle Bodie, Justin Pallos, and Andrew Buote/Luke Cain had to be the best line for both games. I was secretly hoping to see Kyle pick up a hat trick last night, but I'll settle for some POTW votes.

Off to Central NY. Some of us figure that if Union can't win at Starr Rink this year, they never will.

The logic here seems so obvious that I'm worried. Bad things seem to happen at Starr and not so many good things at Lynah for that matter. I agree that Union looked as good last night as I can ever recall in recent memory. Putting up an 8 spot against a much improved Clarkson is notable. The passing was excellent, the physical but controlled play was there too. All but one goal was scored at even strength (actually the PP has cooled dramatically of late-but that's glass half full philosophy). These freshman are getting scary.

I was pretty impressed by how much faster and quicker Union was last night. I have to believe that Clarkson's playing its 4th game in 6 nights against some pretty tough competition had to be a factor, but I'm not sure it would have made a difference.

Well, I said at 10:30am Saturday I thought the Union game could get ugly. Clarkson gave RPI everything they had and the emotional high they were coming down from combined with the exhaustion of 4 games in 6 nights definitely led to the debacle that was Saturday night. Union was three steps faster at every position all night. If we had managed to score in the first period when Karpowich was standing on his head, I think it might have turned out differently, but there was no way we would've deserved to win that game even if we had. Bloody miracle it wasn't 6-0 after the first.

Awesome weekend. Unfortunately, I missed the game on Friday because the earliest train I could catch from NY got in at 8:49 (it ended up getting in at 9:30) but I was happy to hear that we stopped St. Lawrence's momentum to beat them with two goals in the third.

I was pretty confident heading into the Clarkson game, knowing our recent history. However, I also knew that Clarkson has been much improved this year so I thought it would be close. I was wrong. I was extremely impressed with Union's performance and I liked the fact that they didn't get discouraged when they out-shot Clarkson 22-3, yet ended the period in a 0-0 tie.

I believe we are up to #14 in the PWR so let's hope we can stay there or move up come tourney time! Great to be back in Schenectady for the weekend. LET'S GO U!

Is it that the batteries are recharged after the break? It sure looked like it this weekend.
The enigma is when they play OOC games against teams with winning reputations. The self confidence seems to be missing although they should be winning those. In turn, there are still the unknowing out there that don't recognize U as a good college hockey program. The mindset in both is ingrained and tough to change. To change this there needs to be consistent scheduling of OOC games vs, the likes of Michigan State, Providence, or Wisconsin. They're .500 teams playing in front of big crowds in the CCHA, Hockey East, and WCHA. When U can go into one of these games with the same frame of mind as they do for an ECAC game, then they will move to the next level. So far so good, as they continue to improve and increase their rep, but they should look forward to this sooner than later. Let's keep the roll going in league play.

                              GOOOOU

We comment a bit about this topic every season, more or less. Now Ken Schott and I both want a new rink or in a manner of speaking, "If they come, will they build it?" This is a longshot for a lot of reasons, but let's face it, Messa rink is a D-III facility with a D-1 team. (By the way, it looked like there were some problems with the ice on Saturday). The Saturday Clarkson game wasn't quite a sellout according to the announced attendance, but it really had that cramped feeling. The rest room facilities are totally inadequate, the bleachers uncomfortable and difficult to access, and well, you know all the rest. A top ranked program deserves a top notch facility or at the very least, an adequate one. Well, I can dream can't I?
