He was sick, according to Wilson during the post-game on WITR. Apparently multiple guys have been ill the past few days, "one end or the other," as Wilson said. Wilson said that Watson had told him he may not be 100% day-of, but I guess it took to the middle of the game to get bad. Raibl was out for similar reasons.

Now, I didn't actually get to see last night's game, but by the accounts of the WITR guys and Wilson, the reffing last night was terrible. The RPI game I have no real gripes about, but two of those three penalties in the start of the first seemed tenuous at best.

Not that I can take too much away from Union, they played a great game. The penalties and everything did snowball and cause our tempers to flare and lose focus. Could've been a much better game.

Clearly, you're not familiar with the reffing situation in the AHA.

Some say that if you're not taking flak, you're not over the target.

I just wonder why the goal seems to be taking flak.

Ok a couple rough losses. The good thing that is league play is about to start up - even if they are starting off with one of the hottest teams in the AHA.

Yikes, we need to call Ringwald and Tanev back to run a defense clinic.

I'm not sure that with the way the Tigers are playing they really want to start league play yet.

Remember 0-5 last year. That turned out OK, as far as I remember. We skated well with UNO and St Cloud and should have beaten Lowell. One off weekend isn't worrying me that much.

The RPI fans in my section were very complimentary of the RIT band, too.
I went with 4 RPI fans yesterday, so I'm looking forward to sitting with the RIT alumni group tonight!
were you sitting in an R.I.T jersey in the section immediately next to the band?..... Though they didnt get the results im sure they wanted...RPI and Union are 2 tough teams and RIT has nothing to be ashamed of..... Goodluck for the rest of the year

there was one penalty call (i think our 4th) that i didn't agree with and i didn't see the play for our final power play but the others looked fair to me. especially the first boarding call early in the game - i actually cringed and was worried the union player got hurt on the play. not sure exactly what the complaints were, but i also heard the union coach yelling at the refs for missing a few contact to the head calls late in the game. either way, no refereeing will ever be perfect but these refs looked better and more consistent than the aha refs i am used to.

union did play great, but if we had gotten an early power play and goal i think the results would have been far different. it has to be hard to get down a goal early on the road.
i refuse to take out my keys.

Last year's 0-5 included an 0-2 start in league play.

RIT will need to play more like the first weekend and not like last.

Well, I can't say I'm shocked by the start. Lots of new faces and guys playing new roles, assuming more ice time, etc. and just getting their feet wet at the DI level. Couple that with a tough, although not impossible schedule, and its easy to see how this team got to where it is. Encouraging that they skated with St. Cloud and UNO on opening weekend, but the UML loss and this past weekends performances were quite frankly not good at all. I would have hoped for a better bounce back kind of performance after the loss to UML but apparently that just wasn't in the cards.
What will get this team back on track a bit, in my mind, is Wilson picking a #1 and going with him. To me, Jan has given this team the best performances and has earned the #1 role at this point. I'm not impressed with Madalora, I've never been impressed, in his limited game action or having seen him work in practice I see far too many lapses in concentration and poor positioning that cost him dearly. He gives up HUGE rebounds too. Watson seems OK to me, he looks like he has a lot of potential to be a top notch goaltender at this level and I'd slot him as the #2.
The youth on defense is painfully obvious, but hopefully with guys getting used to the speed of game action, and adjusting to the level, they will come along. I wouldn't mind seeing some more size brought in, we aren't exactly huge back there size wise and it seems we struggle to clear the front of the net.
Offense seems up and down. One line seems to be better than the others, by a stretch and breaking them up and mixing the lines didn't yield much results. 1 hot line is better than 4 lukewarm ones.
I think ultimately its time, its experience, and its something that many of these guys are lacking.
I think a lot of people had unrealistic expectations or hopes after last years run. Understandable. But the reality is this is kind of a rebuilding year of sorts in my mind. If we get a home first round series in the playoffs, I'll be happy and if we get to BCA in the spring, I think this team will have met or exceeded all reasonable expectations of success.

I also would hesitate to push the panic button on this season. Remember that last season not only did RIT start 0-5, but they also went 0-6 in non-conference play, including losses to two last place teams (Clarkson, Niagara) and two lopsided losses to a second-to-last place team (Mankato). That one fabulous weekend in Albany (where all the stars managed to align just right for the Tigers) aside, what would make anyone think this season's start would be any different than last? The NC schedule is (at least prognostically speaking) tougher that last year's and RIT lost their goalie and three best defensemen, two of which made up the best one season defense pairing in AHA history (short as it is).
Don't worry. The AHA does not have any teams as good as St. Cloud, UNO, Union, or RPI. All four of those teams look to potentially be contenders for their conference's titles. Union has scored 23 goals in its last 3 or 4 (I can't remember) home games. UNO swept Minnesota in St. Paul. St. Cloud was ranked # 4 nationally when they faced RIT. Robert Morris may be "hot" against a bunch of losing teams, but coming to Ritter is a different story. I can't wait for the matchups with RMU and Niagara. They should be the most challenging opponents this conference has thrown out there for RIT yet. And that's on top of the already tough matchups with Air Force, Mercyhurst, Sacred Heart, and Canisius.
Can't we all just get along?
Always remember... This is just a game we're talking about here. Let's not take it all too seriously.
