North Dakota has also played many of the state schools that were NAIA (Division II). We even lost to Minot State in basketball one year...

Thanks, but it seems a school has be be a member of some group NCAA, NAIA or whoever to have sports so being COMPLETELY independent can't happen?

So what happens when the NAIA disappears? Because I'm assuming all schools strive to be in the NCAA. (Big assumption, and I don't know enough about the NAIA to assume anything else.)

Playing bad teams from good conferences is actually good for your RPI under the new ratio. Having a few games against UAH, and the AHA teams isn't that bad anymore either.

How about 14 games against those teams and then add four against PSU?

The largest portion for the current RPI is opponents opponents Winning% so beating penn state is better than splitting with north dakota over the course of 4 games. IF Wisconsin had a schedule of their 20 big ten games and then played @Cornell 2, @ UND 2, vs Niagara 2, vs Canisius 2, vs UAH 2, vs MTU 2, vs Providence 2 thats actually probably just as good on paper as this season...considering the stupidity of 0.25 W%, 0.21 OppW%, 0.54 OppOppW%. They did it to reduce the number of negative impact victories but all it does is make the RPI an even more flawed value.

I had a friend play college sports at the NAIA level. According to the school he went to, the NCAA didn't have high enough academic standards for their liking. So when the schools in the conference they were in moved to jump to the NCAA level, this particular school said they were very pleased to stay in the NAIA, thank you very much. Take that for what it's worth I guess. I'm a little skeptical that some other factors weren't involved (money being chief among them obviously) but there it is.

It will be to accommodate the Big Ten's need to have four teams always in the NCAA tourney. For example, the .500 rule will go bye, bye.

Why? Do you really think UW, Min, Mich and MSU won't be above .500 most of the time with 8 of their 20 conference games against OSU and PSU and at least 4 games against cupcakes? I mean until Osiecki and whoever is hired at PSU get things going, you're talking about going 10-1-1, which means a team like MSU needs to go 7-15 in the rest of their schedule to be on the right side of .500

If you can't go .500 against that schedule you won't make the tourney anyway.

Right. Extra home games = tacking on an extra $35+ per additional home game to the season ticket cost. Even if the new schedule netted them just *one* extra home game per season, it's worth about $350,000 in revenue to the U on a ticket basis. Then add the suites, concessions, and parking to the mix, and you're probably pushing $500k. It's not exactly chump change.

And who's to say PSU will ever get things going? A BTHC team doesn't = success. Look at OSU. They've been around for a while. Pbbbbbt. Nada.

                              GodDAM I hate the BTHC.
