That fifth line that includes "Football Stadium Size" as a comparable, is really going to suck.

Where is this coming from? Because you want it that way or you heard something? Unless the BTHC is going to make all the other college hockey teams a lot of money I don't see the other schools wanting a change.

And the same is true of the NCAA...every member of the NCAA voluntarily chose to become a member and can leave if they don't like the rules. That doesn't prevent the NCAA or the WCHA from being governed by antitrust laws.

I know we have actual real-life law talking guys who are reading this thread, or were reading it a few days ago. I would be interested in hearing their opinions, even if this isn't their area of specialty.

The NCAA does not have an "antitrust exemption." Antitrust laws apply to the NCAA, as they do to the WCHA.

I do know many people that are not hockey fans --which have caught a BTN hockey game on, and have mentioned to me that iowa needs a team --the problem of course is the facility

Cedar Rapids (25 min away) has a 4000 seat arena--anyone know if that might be large enough for a dI school? The Rough Riders (a junior team) who play there, actually draw sellout crowds often....
So would the Rough Rides get tossed out in favor of Iowa? Both couldn't have weekend evening games.

Really? I could have sworn they did.

Interesting. I had always assumed they did. Only because if someone tried to start their own collegiate athletics association they'd be crushed. Not that this reason makes them in violation of antitrust laws necessarily.

not really sure...just thinking off the top...perhaps they could arrange their road and home games to accomodate each other?

Actually, all of the Iowa USHL teams (Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Waterloo and Dubuque) draw pretty well. The problem isn't ice facilities in Iowa, it's ice facilities in Iowa in cities with D1 schools. The downtown rink in Des Moines is something like 14,000 seats, but I don't see Drake mentioned as a likely option. I don't think there's an appropriate venue in Ames or Iowa City, or D1 schools in Rockford or Council Bluffs...

Maybe Iowa could play on the rink in the mall. LOL!

We currently have the perfect selection system for the NCAAs. Argue the merits of KRACH vs RPI until you're blue in the face, but you cannot deny that the selection committee is fair and gets it right every single season. (Seriously, how long has it been since they've veered away from the PWR?)

If the selection committee EVER changes its tune, I demand a riot.

I was under the impression that if you weren't a NCAA member you couldn't compete against a NCAA school. It's like if you don't join the union you don't get to work. Am I wrong?

Here, for example, is an argument from somebody (not the NCAA) that the NCAA should be granted an antitrust exempion!

It's an interesting question, but I think the fact that no conference has recently blackballed another team or conference in any sport is also evidence that you can't do that legally.

Completely. Bemidji State has played football vs. Minot State for something like 10 years in a row, and Minot just started their D-II transition from NAIA. Also, BSU plays Jamestown College and Mayville State - also NAIA schools in basketball and other sports regularly...
