The Homer-Wasica headframe has also been torn down recently. That was the most modern looking headframe in Iron County. http://www.ironcountyreporter.com/ar.../article12.htm

My Brother was able to get photos from inside the headframe just a couple months before it was torn down. If anyone's interested, I may post what he e-mailed me later.

What's causing a lot of these mining sites to be gutted is the liability costs. The property owners of any land surrounding the known mine sites are liable for any injuries/death that happens and insurance companies are now refusing to insure property owners of these mine sites unless the buildings are removed.

The last two remaining (known) headframes in Iron County are now the Cardiff mine North of town (with rumors that that ones next to be razzed for scrap metal) and the Pickands-Mather mine headframe which is the showcase piece for the Iron County Museum.
I was just in Colorado and one mountain had over 100 head frames at one time. Now most are gone but I'd say about 30 are still there. it's a huge maze down under with one mine going over 3500 ft down.

Gonna ask around now, although I think crazypotatoes has my back:

Need a floor for MN/MTU series in Nov. Anyone? Will pay in beer/etc.
Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

15 is 3 more than 12. That means three coaches are picking us to not finish last.

actually 15 is 4 more than 11* So there could have been 4 coaches that voted MTU 10th, 1 coach that voted them 7th or some combination in the middle.

*11 is the minimum because coaches don't rank their own teams.

Right, if UND had gotten all the first place votes that they could have gotten, then they would be at 121, instead of being just one short of the max.

Do have to wonder who else voted for SCSU.

Or the other 11 coaches all had the same opinoin, and JR voted for Tech to finish 9th. I'm just saying...

It's depressing that I used to dream of Tech being one of the top 16 schools in the country but now even finishing in the top 10 of our own conference is a goal at the start of the season.

In a totally unrelated subject, with all this talk of a BI6TEN (see how I worked that six in there - always thinking ahead) hockey conference maybe that could lead to something like the WCHA and HE had in the early 80's where there was more interconference play. Maybe the newer / smaller WCHA and CCHA could combine their schedules. Play each team in both conferences twice. (9x2)+(8x2) gives you 34 games. Kind of cuts down your "out of conference" games, but assuming you played every team at home one year and one the road the next, that brings a minimum of 17 different teams into your own barn every two years. It would be harder to build rivalries, but if it's really a big game schedule it as a non-conference like NMU v MTU does now. I would think the diversity of teams you get to watch would be a plus for fans.
