Top Freshmen

Just curious who some of the top incoming freshmen are. Maybe not so much the big name recruits people know about, maybe some of the more under the radar guys.

Patrick Koudys big RPI frosh d-man...attended recent NHL experimental rules camp. '11 Draft eligiible.

Forbort and Nelson for the Fighting Sioux. Both went in the first round of the NHL draft this summer.

For DU keep your eyes on the following 5 frosh

F Beau Bennett (1st Round 2010 NHL Draft)
F Jason Zucker (2nd Round 2010 NHL Draft)
G Sam Brittain (4th Round 2010 NHL Draft)
F Nick Shore (Draft eligible in 2011)
D David Makowski (2009/10 USHL Defensman of the Year)

Good chance all 5 will get lots of playing time as freshman with DU's losses to graduation and early pro signings.

Charlie Coyle for BU is another big name. He was drafted in the first round this year and has been on the radar for a while now.

Fwd Connor Brickley for Vermont is a name to keep an eye on. He was drafted 50th overall and he has a decent offensive cast to help him succeed.

The Jones twins (Kellen, Connor) should be fun to watch for ECAC fans this year. Maybe not huge numbers wise, but they will definitely have a toned down Sedin bros. feel.

Andy Isles, true freshman (18 years old) incoming goalie for Cornell. Arguably the top goalie on the U18 US National Development team last year, he went 10-4 with a 2.29 GAA and 0.918 save %. The team overall went 25-31, they're young talented kids playing mostly against older players in the USHL.

Greg Carey (St. Lawrence) is coming from the Burlington Cougars of the OJHL where he set the scoring record last year with 72g, 42a (114pts) in 48 games, along with 7g, 4a in 10 games in the playoffs. We're hoping that he'll come on to the scene and display a solid scoring touch to replace the scoring lost by Mike McKenzie and the other seniors who have graduated.

SLU also lost an incoming freshman (Dustin Stevenson) to the Washington Capitals before he even stepped foot on campus as an official freshman... hopefully this doesn't hurt us too bad.

if the team played 56 games and he played 14, hard to say they had him as top goalie. Campbell was the top goalie by a mile and where he was drafted supports taht. That and his huge international wins and championships

Looking at the stats, 4 goalies split the load of the 56 games. Iles and Campbell both had much better numbers out of the 4, and both were very comparable. GAA was 2.29 to 2.21, save% was .918 to .917, respectively. The biggest difference is in record, where Iles went 10-4-0, Campbell went 6-3-1. Not quite sure how Campbell was "top goalie by a mile." Better? Probably, but not by a mile.

Jooris had more points (116 to 114 on 26g 90a) however Carey set the CCHL goal scoring record last year (previously held by Darren Haydar).

If you look at Campbells resume, it's not hard to say he was the top goalie on the U18s last year and that it's not close. It's not to say Illes isn't talented as the stats you list are pretty similar, but Campbell's international experience and success speaks for itself.
