NJ is not Nevada. Sports Gambling is illegal in NJ. Pretty much every state has a casino in it. It is more about the reputation at this point that AC has for gambling that would affect it.

The reputation also includes prostitution and drug problems. I can't imagine this really makes sense, but kudos to ECAC management for figuring out what we all know - Albany sucks! I really think there were better options, but I am willing to give this a shot and be thankful that there is only one more year and Albany.

Would not have been my first choice, but definitely an upgrade from Albany!

Nope. I did a quick perusal (okay, not that quick - bored beyond belief today) of the "Ditch Albany" thread and found that people had thrown out the following suggestions (perhaps not all seriously, some only as strawmen):

            Albany
            Amherst, MA
            Binghampton
            Boston
            Bridgeport
            Brooklyn
            Buffalo
            Burlington, VT
            Campus Sites
            Chestnut Hill
            Durham, NH
            Elmira
            Glens Falls
            Hamden, CT
            Hanover
            Hartford
            Lake Placid
            Lowell
            Manchester, NH
            Manhattan
            Meadowlands
            Montreal
            Naussau Coliseum
            New Haven
            Newark
            Philadelphia
            Portland
            Providence
            Rochester
            Springfield, MA
            Syracuse
            Trenton
            Troy
            Turning Stone Casino
            Utica
            Worcester

            -and- my personal favorite, Baghdad.

But not a peep about Atlantic City. The closest was Wicked Slappaahs, who said "As fun as it would be to have the event at a casino resort, I'm not sure the league would risk holding the event in a building that sometimes keeps ice," but he was referring to Turning Stone Casino.

At least you can't accuse the league of not thinking out of the box. This will be a most interesting experiment...

Not to be a troll but are you referring to Lucy the elephant? That is not in Sea Bright. That is in Margate. Sea Bright is around exit 105 on the Parkway about hour to hour and half north of AC. That is Central Jersey. Sea Bright is to narrow anyway to be able to fit an elephant onto it.

Having attended 41 straight Tournaments I will say that this seems like a ridiculous choice, although it is possible that the proximity to New York might increase the number of fans from Cornell (if they are in it). At the same time I would guess that the number of true ECAC fans who might otherwise attend will probably decline. In my opinion the target number of fans, since the split with Hockey East, is probably 6,500 to 8,500. I can't really see the benefit of this move evn if the new venue draws a few thousnd more.

The real benefit is that its out of Albany. Albany is a nice government town, but on weekends, it's pretty much grim.

Is it going to be a hit in AC? Doubtful. But it doesn't need to be a hit. It just needs be better than Albany, which is a pretty low bar to hurdle.

A/C has Casinos, a boardwalk, a beach (kinda useless in March, I know) and some good places to eat. Beyond the overdone glitz of the casions, A/C also has a tattred, interesting history if you are willing to look for it --faded vacation memories, the old Miss America pageant and salt water taffy.

Yea, you'll see a few interesting people there (think of it as sociology experiment) but it's no more dangerous than the area around the Albany bus station.

I'm so confused. AC is a ****hole, and I say this despite being (most of the time) an ardent defender of New Jersey.

That's funny. AC is the only part of Jersey I actually like As long as you don't go further inland than say...Pacific, you're fine.

That said, talk about coming out of left field. I know (some) folks weren't thrilled with Albany, but Atlantic City? Really, that's the best the ECAC could come up with?

It's a three year commitment on the Boardwalk... and give them credit for being creative enough to roll the dice (with the house's money). The Jersey Shore, even with tables and casino neon is pretty quiet in Winter. I mean, why go to AC when they tell me it doesn't cost that much more to go Vegas or the Bahamas? It's at least 10 degrees warmer than AC. All those NY/NJ/NE families with the young kids on school break in March? They drive further south.

If this is a play to get the NYC-Philly-Balt-DC alums to come out to the games alongside the committed ECAC fanbase for a weekend and draw more than Albany while filling up empty prime, late winter hotel space... good luck. It's a shame Penn hockey closed up shop about 30 years ago, or they could have counted on their fanbase, too.

Memo: To Albany and some of the otha contendas: Take some time to rethink how to host the tourney/draw folks. The guys in ECAC blazers may want to take a few meetings around 2012.

LOL Ralph. I think the tournament at AC is likely to be about as successful as the 1964 Liberty Bowl was. Anyone remember that fiasco? Of course Albany had it coming or should I say going?
