Re: Union College Hockey 2009-2010: Playoff series win? Check. Albany? This is the year.
Congratulations. That game was everything I expected it to be. Your guys played a good game. Better than either team in the afternon contest for sure. It hurts for us to see the year end for our senior class - who did some pretty special this year and throughout their careers - especially on a night where we thought they did all they needed to win . . . except get a bounce. But that's the way it goes, and you guys have a very good team.

A couple of observations from last night.
It looked like the ice was in tough shape. A lot of very strange bounces on the ice and off the boards. The start of the the 2nd and 3rd periods were delayed I assume because there was excess water on the surface. Why can't they just resurface the ice right away without those inane contests between periods?
It looked like Zajac reinjured his shoulder but returned after being worked on. Pretty tough kid. Also, I feel for Mike Wakita who had to sit out the game. As a senior and captain this had to be tough to swallow. I don't imagine he'll be playing tonight either.
Yano took a horrible penalty and had to be sweating bullets while riding out the PK. BTW, I thought the refs did a credible job last night, I hardly noticed them.
Minor quibble, why is there a picture of a Yale player (Backman?) on the cover of the program? They must have sent this to the printer in October.

Anybody have any insight on where the Union fans were/are located vs. the Cornell fans? Probably gonna make my way down to the TUC this evening but want to try and avoid getting myself stuck in the middle of the People's Army. I'll be sporting my RPI jersey but definitely rooting for U tonight.

They'll be easy to spot. They'll be the ones singing this (and looking like that) before the game.

We're in Section 119, Row N, and surrounded. Hopefully we can scout out a couple of seats in friendlier territory.

They were in opposite corners. Union was seated in realation to Broadway Joes, on that side, 103 -104 Id say, Cornell was in the opposite corner 118-117 If im guessing right.

Exactly right.
The Union fans kept it rockin' over there last night and I was pretty proud. Hopefully tonight will be 10x as intense. I want every Union fan there to give it all they have. We haven't always had lots of opportunities to get excited and cheer like we do tonight, so make it count.
I'm looking forward to a great, and certainly a very tough game. Lets get it U! Seize the opportunity!

There was one spot - the faceoff circle closest to the Union corner - where players seemed to keep tripping and falling. I also thought the ice wasn't in great shape and there were some classic TUC bounces off the boards.

We thought Zajac was injured with a slash to the wrist on a 2-on-1 scoring chance a few minutes after Cain's goal, but the TV replay looked like the SLU defender got his stick twisted with Kelly's arm. Hard to tell, but there's no doubt Zajac's a tough kid.

I thought the same thing at first, but some might recall that the Lake Placid programs had the previous year's winning team on the front cover. That said, is it hard to print out 9,000 programs in 4 days?
My main quibble was that they didn't have the programs available until halfway through the first period of the early game.
