Sure....but again it all depends. We have to assume that he is not your "elite" player and will not garner a full ride from a BU or Notre Dame. Then how much will Notre Dame be offering him. If they are giving him a 1/2 scholarship, then yes it would be worth more than the standard WHL package he is entitled to (again, assuming that tuition is cheap in Idaho) but what if they are only offering him a 1/3rd? Does it become worth it then????

This of course does not mean that signing with a WHL team will preclude him from getting an education (the main erroneous beef here from posters like RWD). The issue then is no longer receiving an education, since we have proved that one can be attained by going the CHL route, but where you want to receive that education and how much you want to pay for it.

Why do you all keep questioning jnacc? He's all-knowing and is always right. Just stop before you're too far behind as it is obvious none of you can handle his vast intellect.

You're still ignoring the basic facts here. The majority of NCAA players get full scholarships - a few per team don't. If there is a team that gives out a lot of partials, then ~half the team gets a full scholarship and everyone else gets about a 50% scholarship. AND EVERY ONE OF THEM ATTENDS CLASSES AND 90+% GRADUATE WITH A DEGREE. Elite, non-Elite, it doesn't matter. With 18 full scholarships to divide among about 25 players, generally every player on the ice (12 F 6 D 2 G) is getting a full ride or close to it.

Never mind. I hate to say it, but Dirty's right here. I'm done.

No the majority are not getting full scholarships. On say a team like Notre Dame, with 27 listed players, about 10 may receive a full package. The other 8 are divided up among the remaining 17 players. Of those, some may receive 75% while others may only garner 25%....far from close to a "full ride".

Sorry if reality disappoints you....have fun playing with dirty.

Using your numbers - 10 full rides, 8 with 75%, 8 with 25% - that's 26 players - at least one guy per team is a walk-on, typically a lot more. So 18 players get either a full ride scholarship or close - 75%. How many dress for a game? 18. As I said, and using your numbers, generally every player on the ice is getting a full ride or close to it. Those are your numbers, and they make my point. I don't consider a 3rd or 4th liner or a 6th defenseman to be "elite". Even if you just count the very small number of full rides you quoted, that could be split between 6 forwards, 3 defensemen, and 1 goalie. I don't consider the weakest 2nd liner and a 3rd defenseman "elite" either.

So you're not fulfilling on your promised duty? You're never going to be the respected educator you aspire to be with this sort of laissez faire attitude. I'm very disillusioned right now. Perhaps I was mistaken in my choice of mentor?

Tell me is 50% a full ride? Is 75% a full ride? Nope...only 100% is a full ride and on average there are only about 10 of these on any given team. The other 8 are distributed very carefully. One player may only start with a 33% with the promise of an increase to a 50% the following year if certain conditions are met.

Now if a player is good enough to elicit a 75% scholarship offer from Notre Dame, he will more than likely be good enough to garner an equally acceptable scholarship offer from an OHL club.....the point here is that, despite what Paul Kelly would have you believe, a player is not necessarily throwing away a 35K package because he chooses to play in the CHL.
