I understand the selection committee has to switch teams around to fulfill their mission of keeping conference matchups out of the opening round, but it still rubs me the wrong way.
Still a long way off, and if UND makes it, I just don't see them any lower than a 3. Regardless, I agree that would not be my preferred first round opponent, but the thing about this tournament is that all 16 teams are very good.

North Dakota is a weird team. If you ask anyone affiliated with the program they will say their record is because Genoway got hurt back in November and hasn't made it back yet. Eidsness has been hot and cold in net, never really knowing what they'll get, and Dell is an ineffective backup. The team has some good talent, but they appear to be night and day different than they were in the first half right now. They went 1-1-2 against 7th place Minnesota, 1-1 against 8th place UAA, 2-0 against 9th place Mankato, and 2-0 against Tech. That means they are 3-8-1 against the top half of their conference. They are the last WCHA team in, and I think they'll be out.

Man, if any one of those other teams had thought about that also, they might have beaten us once this season. UNO might be on a recent winning streak, but no reason that we shouldn't take a couple wins this weekend.
Well, speaking as a UNO fan we have no illusions about the challenge Miami represents - Yes we are playing well and Dean Blaise and Mike Hastings has the team playing with passion and purpose but Miami has demonstrated the deserve their # 1 rating and we all know that.
UNO Maverick Hockey - It doesn't get any better than this!

Just because no other team hasn't, doesn't mean UNO won't. To write this team off is foolish to me. They are playing extremely well, and this is a different team than any other that has came to oxford with UNO on the front. They are fully capable of stealing a game, I for one am not over looking this team and no one else should either. If you want to go for it, but don't be surprised if Miami loses one this weekend.

Now with that said, Miami should win both they are the better team. But the better team doesn't necessarily win every time. Coach blais is a very good coach and it should be an interesting battle between the two coaches on which style they decide to play.

One thing you have to understand is the committee doesn't have to do that. Their is a rule that if a conference gets more than 5 teams into the tournament they don't have to avoid inter-conference match ups. They won't put Miami against North Dakota in the first round if they can avoid it with a loop hole. If they do so be it, it will be a great game. I am with '95 I don't think UND is a 4 seed. I think its either 3 or higher or out, but there is so much hockey left to play I wouldn't stress over any bracketology pairings just yet.

So, since we have clinched #1 in CCHA tournament and a home series with UNO remaining, does it make sense to sit a couple dinged up guys for rest? Or do we stick with the same lines and just let em keep the mighty mo rolling along?

I would keep on keepin' on. But that's just me. I haven't heard of any major
injuries, but i'm 10 hours away and don't hear much of the scuttle-butt.
If you notice they have been already. Schilling got the day off against Western, Steffes played the other night. Mantha and Mason got ice time against western. So he has been giving guys a night off here and there lately. Its suttle but its there, no harm in it you never know this time of year and the fact that Miami has depth with guys not dressing that can step in and make a difference is huge too. Think about this, you have a guy in a suit nearly every night (thats healthy) who played in a national championship game, how many teams can say that? They also have 7 D men who can and have played a lot this year, should one go down they are still in good shape. So I think you continue to see him get some of those guys ice here or there just in case to keep them sharp.

I know UNO is a good team and they are playing well, but so was Lake Superior when they came to town (they were 8-2-2 before our sweep). So was Ferris when we went there (they were 11-1-2 before our sweep). I'm not writing UNO off, they're decent, they will not finish in the top 4 though. They're only "quality" win this season is If we stay focused though, which we have done in the past month, then we shouldn't be expecting a split. UNO gives up a lot of goals, and we score a lot. We aren't facing a goalie that can steal a game like we have for most of the season (re: Nagle, Gill, Bakala, Palmisano, Nelson, Greenham).

I'll be emailing this to the NoDak boys.

NoDak's record is NOT because of Genoway being out. I highly doubt you talked to someone "affiliated" with the program. You probably talked to some whiney NoDak fans (they do exist lol). The record is due to playing really well and not getting the results. It happens. Maybe for you guys your place in the NCAA is all but set, but over in the WCHA, it's still a battle at the top and nothing will be set until after the Final Five. I'm not sure how a Miami fan would know much about the recent play of the NoDak team to draw certain conclusions as far as NCAA predictions. But you are entitled to your own opinion.

                  Peace out.

Well I don't know about jd but I do watch them whenever they are on TV so I have seen them a lot this year. For me personally after watching that thriller in grand forks in november I didn't see this coming from the sioux. Could it be possible that they have their halves reversed? Usually the Sioux start slow and finish extremely well, this year they seemed to start well out of the gate and have fluttered lately. I have seen them play great and win, play really really bad, and play great and lose. Eidsness has been a weakness this year and needs to be more consistant down the stretch. Genoway being out definantly hurts No Dak but it isn't the sole reason for their struggles, other guys haven't stepped up. Ultimately I would expect to see them in the tournament and think they will be atleast a 3 seed and a team you don't want to face in the tourny. But with their remaining schedule, if they don't figure it out they could be out. It isn't that far fetched which I never thought would be a possibility this year.

I don't expect a split, I expect a sweep. But I wouldn't be surprised if it was a split. I believe it will probably be a split, doesn't mean I am not pulling for a sweep. I am trying to be realistic, from what you were saying it seemed there shouldn't be anyway Miami splits. All of your arguments are valid and may be the case but UNO is a pretty darn good club with a great coach and they will battle Miami. I think Miami is more talented and is playing just as well if not better than UNO at this point but UNO is plenty capable of getting atleast a game this weekend, just like any of those teams you mentioned were capable of doing it as well. Only difference is none of the before mentioned were able too, jury is still out on UNO. Case in point no one thought Miami would lose a game to Robert Morris let alone two. You just never know sometimes.

Email away. There's nothing incendiary about that at all. Regardless, we've seen UND up close and personal. Not only that, but they're on TV quite often so even us slovenly, apparently uneducated, Miami fans have seen them play enough to make some message board banter.

I would be willing to bet the Ferris film has been played a lot in Omaha this week.

They do have some speed, I would look for them to try and put a lot of pressure on the puck and force turnovers. Miami has shown some capabilities of forcing passes and getting a little flustered with the puck when they are pressured. If UNO can take half of the ice away and put a lot of pressure on the puck carrier it would give them a good chance.

Now to counter that Miami will need to keep a saftey valve option available. You will need to make that initail pass from deep in your end to make UNO force their hand, use the saftey option defenseman to transition and you could be able to catch UNO out of position. Lots of game play going to happen, it will be a good test for Coach Blasi to adjust on the fly.
