True they may not have won a non-conference game, but when 75% of your league has a max of 5 wins you can't say they are better than another conference. Really its a mute point which one is worse neither is very good.

good statement game after last weekend. we knew we would bounce back, but was a question of when it would happen. first loss on ferris home ice this season, get another win tomorrow and we'll have a decent lead on ccha play.

Irish give us some more breathing room on Sparty tonight, plus our 2 games in hand.

Reichard with a 0.89 CCHA GAA now

And he's only a sophomore, my god.

Oh, and the second best CCHA GAA? 1.34... Knapp

Obviously we're all thrilled with this weekend. To go on the road to play a very good Ferris State team in a hostile environment (undefeated until this weekend). I was very impressed by Miami's puck movement and passing in tight spaces. They were active in front of the net and were able to screen the Ferris 'tender (Nelson i think). The Dmen were great in clogging up the neutral zone and not allowing the 'dogs to get enough space to set up much in the offensive zone.

On the down side, still long stretches when they are not rotating enough in offensive zone - lots of standing around waiting instead of working to open the shooting lanes. Also, I noticed a lot of excessive puck possession - not really sure the best term for it. But guys getting through the neutral zone weaving through traffic rather than passing the puck to the wing for the open lane to the net. I'm assuming that Rico saw something that told him that attacking the middle would set up the wings better. But with Ferris constantly checking the middle with 2 defenders and opening the wings, you have to change it up a little. This a huge problem because, with Ferris standing up the center, we had way to many offsides calls which stopped innumerable rushes.

Don't misunderstand, I am very happy with the weekend. It just took me longer to put into words the downside than the upside. The 6 pts give Miami a huge cushion in the CCHA standings going down the stretch. I won't mention the other standings this will help us in....it might get me censured by our hockey sensei: redeagle-san.

Giving up a home run in Great American Ballpark is kind of like walking into a chocolate factory and yelling "I WANNA BE FAT!!!"

It's going to happen. Just give it time.....and a little effort.

Just curious: was there illness or injury to Conner? I was surprised to see Cody on back-to-back nights. Is this the sign of things to come - moving the Cody only? I would think it would be a little soon for that, but I could be wrong. I hope that Conner keeps getting some time (and expect him to) since he's also doing so well.

With the sweep of Ferris, Miami moves into a 1st-place tie with idle Denver in the PairWise and into a solid 1st place in the KRACH.

Thats funny because we win the comparison with Denver 3-0. The only team to win one over us is Bemidji until their numbers get tossed for not playing enough TUCs.

funny, where are all the trolls to trash us now? Told you guys there was nothing to worry about. Team showed up and played great hockey this weekend. Dumb penalty by Miele and a little let down the last 5 min after getting the 3 goal lead. But for the most part Miami held Ferris in check all weekend. They spread the scoring around nicely, got great goaltending again and more importantly played as a team and believed they could win.

Looks like Coach has made the move and its Cody the rest of the way. IMO, very hard to go back to knapp now. Also nice little gap Miami has opened up in the Conference race too which is nice to have.

I wouldn't expect to see a lot of connor down the stretch. I am unaware of any injury, Coach just made his move. It isn't too early at all and knew it had to happen at some point. Hard to go back to Connor unless he goes full time now. Just like around this point last year he made the move to Connor full time and it panned out until the playoffs when he went back. You have to at some point say you are my guy to one of them and they both had a full first half to state their case.

Going to play devils advocate. The flow of the game dictates what you are going to do. Obviously their normal game plan didn't work against Ferris the first go around, so the coaching staff did a tremendous job of mixing things up. This is why you didn't see sustained cycles in the offensive zone that much and is why you saw more rushes rather than passes. Ferris plays a trap, which means they take half of the ice away from you and pressure you into turnovers or dump ins. A way to avoid those mistakes is to not force passes and to try and gain the zone. This is what they went too, but are not used to which is why you saw multiple offsides. However it was highly effective for miami because they have very good skilled players and are able to attack the trap rather than the trap attack them. As for the cycle, their style doesn't allow for the cycle to really develop and become effective because they play more of a zone instead of man on man and chase you around. So essentially they just stand there and let you cycle without opening up any passing lanes which is the main purpose of the cycle. There for it wasn't necessary to work the boards or down low as much as they normally would.

What you saw were two games that were coached extremely well and you saw Miami adapt rather than beat their head against the wall being stubborn with their system. Nothing to be worried about or frustrated, more so we should be applauding their ability to do so. I know its tough to understand sometimes and I hoped I explained it well enough but against certain teams you need to change things up and it doesn't mean they are doing things wrong, but it just isnt effective and no point in doing it.

Thrilled at the results of the weekend and firming up of league position, pwr, rpi, krach (the present ). Well done to all with the possible exception of "I told you so" rhm.

Another challenge this weekend on the road.
