  • Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

'08 I believe Blais is like "blaze". Yea, I really wish more people south of he border could have seen those two US/Canada games. I read somewhere that 40% north of the border were tuned in to at least part of the game. I think that's better than the super bowl down here.

Nice job again '95 and the second half data are interesting. I know we often talk about the swoon. Counting ties as one-half of a win and if my arithmetic is correct, Coach Blasi's winning percentage overall is about .575 and using '95's second half numbers the second half percentage is .535. Of course the overall data include the second half, so the difference is bigger if you compare first to second (unless I am missing something). A difference for sure, but if you factor in that most of the OOC games are in the first half, and until this year the OOC schedule was not that difficult, the difference may not be as great as we think. Don't have time now, but it might be interesting to look at first half league games versus second half league games. What got me thinking of this is that Miami before Coach Blasi always seemed to have difficulty in the second half (at least with Mazz), but I have not checked the data. When I retire, I'll be able to do all this stuff.

Someone on MHT pointed this out, that the preliminary hobey voting is up again.
      http://www.hobeybaker.com/voting/

Interesting that the #1 goalie in the country in GAA, #2 in Sv Percentage, #2 in shutouts, and #1 in win percentage, is not listed. (All of those are Reichard obviously).

Oh yeah, no miami players listed, but there are plenty of scrubs on there.

BTW - eagle, you were right. I will keep my nose down, pressed firmly to the grindstone along with the team. My 'Dear Santa' wishlist got me a little excited about the potential of this team. But then again, we all know what what potential minus dedication get you - jack (and not much else).

Big props to Team USA and Team Canada for giving us a great couple of games.

Does anyone have a phonetic spelling for Coach Blais? I have no idea how to say his name.

But let's go out and shut down this Robert Morris team. If we can get up and at'em in the 1st, I like our chances tonight. It looks like they've been looking at this game for a while - hosting the #1 team is always a big deal no matter who you are. If we can stay sharp and weather the storm through the first 10-15 minutes, we should be fine.
Well said, those two US-Canada games were remarkable. Im going to say this as a fair warning. Don't expect to much this weekend and don't read into too much either. These two games will be tough for Miami. Taking a month off is tough on anyone, its almost as if you need to start over. Tonights game Miami will be doing a lot of feeling out. Robert Morris has two games under their belt and have been pointing to these two games since summer. If Miami wins 2-1 or 3-2 thats ok. If they blow them out then this team is far more advanced than I thought. But even the great teams struggle after long lay offs and Miami has a longer lay off than any other team in the country. They should still beat Robert Morris twice because they just have superior talent but IMO I think they will be closer games than should would think/want.

'95 nice work! was looking around the blog and I know you work with the guy so maybe you can pass it along. He has the link to Gacek's team wrong and he has Mullin listed as a 2011 recruit when he is a 2010. Just a couple minor things, good work on the blog though!

Well that should end all fears of a prolonged Rico Swoon! Oh wait...

Did not get to see the game so I'm curious to hear what went wrong tonight. Looks like RMU tallied a shorty at the end of the first.

I woke up from my NyQuil-induced coma to find that Miami lost. Obviously, I didn't hear the game. So, instead of going through the things that went wrong, I say that we just commend RMU on a great game. Like MD said, we've seen it before.

I, for one, will cop to not thinking that it would; but I don't think it's a big deal. I look for Miami to come out very strong on Sunday.
                Long live the "Brotherhood"!!!!!

Giving up a home run in Great American Ballpark is kind of like walking into a chocolate factory and yelling "I WANNA BE FAT!!!"

It's going to happen. Just give it time.....and a little effort.

lets hope we can rebound early and come out big sunday. we had such a monstrous PWR and KRACH lead that losing to a 3 win team and we are still #1.

apparently the team had quite the adventure getting to pittsburgh, a near 12 hour bus ride, so lets hope that we can attribute the loss to bus legs and sticks gripped too tight, lots of missed open nets. and miele rang one off the irons.

This hopefully will be a 1-game "swoon"... let's wait until Sunday to start worrying about it. Regardless, this brings us 13-3-5 overall. Unless I'm mistaken, Yale (8-3-3) is the ONLY other team in D-I hockey that has 3 or fewer losses on the season, and obviously we've played a few more games than they have. I'll take it.

Now let's get to Sunday and keep that loss column at 3.
Love and honor to Miami forever and a day. Go RedHawks!

                      Yep - they did.

I watched most of the first period (but missed the shorty). Your guys came out flying and almost scored about 13 seconds in. I thought "it's gonna be a long night for Bobby Mo", but they settled down after the butterflies went away.

A tough way for the Redhawks to start '10, but it's a win for RMU on and off the ice. I was in the booth when they beat Notre Dame in South Bend 2 years ago.

The wins and several close 1-goal losses this season shows Coach Schooley is building a solid program in da 'Burgh. Maybe not ready to reach the FF, but a good program nonetheless.

I know it is a big win for RMU and congrats to them, but I sure wish it were someone else they beat. Now this six game stretch to start '10 just got a lot more difficult.

Here's what went wrong, Miami had a month off. RMU played two games last weekend, simple as that. Don't read too much into one game.

Not a swoon, they lost their 3rd game all year. Step back from the ledge everyone, pretty dissapointing that one loss and people come out of the wood works to talk negative.... I tried warning everyone not to expect too much but looks like people did. There is something to taking a month off and Robert Morris playing two last weekend. Lets everyone relax and take a deep breath this team is still leading the CCHA and are 13-3-5 on the year, it could be far worse. Nothing has gotten any harder than it was before, nothing has changed because they lost last night. Miami just needs to stay with the plan and it will be fine. They will build off of fridays game and keep moving forward. If by valentines day they have lost more and have gone something like 4-10 then you can call it a swoon and have concern. But until something like that has happend take deep breaths and enjoy ride.

you still sure about that? It sounds awfully familiar to Army/Clarkson in 08/09. Michigan/Ferris State in 07/08 (Michigan may be a leap, but Ferris was awful). Our 3-5-3 stretch in 06/07. We were having great seasons up to those points as well, come back from holiday, and start chalking up the L's to teams that we shouldn't lose to.

Right now we are 0-3 against the worst, and soon to be defunct, league in college hockey. Ferris sweeps ND and now they have the same points we do in the league.

Awful sports weekend in SW Ohio, I know this team will get back in the wins department, but the question is, when? Given our history, and traveling to Ferris, it may not be this weekend.
