IMO, we have been the best looking team in the field with our tie with Canada (not accepting a shootout as a full-fledged loss...joke) and wins over Finland and two-time defending silver medalists, Sweden.

This is why the USNTDP is around...to get a medal in these international events. Gold would of course be preferred, but they have to get to the point where they are playing for any medal, and do it every year. This seems like a very good team that's well-coached by Blais.

Stepan, D'Amigo and Kristo have been very, very good in this tournament. I also don't remember Kristo making this kind of an impact vs. Miami, but he had certainly been hot for the Sue before the tourney. If those three haven't burned up their legs, their college teams should really see a huge boost by their return the respective lineups with how they are playing.
Couldnt agree more. Kristo played well against Miami but he is taking over games and dominating against some of the top players in the world. JD you are right on about Palmieri he has played hard and well. Haven't seen a lot out of Jordan Schroeder but John Carlson has played well who played with Indy and coach blashill last year. Ryan bourque IMO has been a big impact player for the US. Im not sure how much of what you are seeing is really Dean Blais. Now his system and ability to adapt has made an impact but the development these guys have gotten from the USNTDP is the main reason like '95 said. I think the program is working and is getting better.

guess what? we finally get to play a game again here in just under 4 days. without the OHC this year that was a killer layoff. we can't afford an army/clarkson fiasco like last season (although, technically we could afford one, I think we're all just hoping that this team is good enough and mature enough to not have that letdown)

Also saw that Notre Dame has 5 commits from the USNTDP the most of any school. There is another ohio kid on the U-17 team J.T. Miller out of East Palenstine Ohio. Name doesn't ring a bell to me, may of seen him play before but he is having a nice tournament himself and isn't committed to anyone at this time.
Gold medal game tonight against Ontario, US is up 2-0. Biggs with both goals.

Fun to watch the U17 game. Nice to get a win for the USA. Biggs finished well including a six hole game winning goal (well maybe the Ontario goalie would like that one back). I wonder what the story is with Grimaldi? Where is he considering? Is he bound for the OHL? He's small but seems to have a little Gerbe or Gionta in him. He and Biggs (and was it Boucher?) play well together and were the only U.S. line that consistently generated anything. Biggs is physical and good linemate for Grimaldi.

Looked like the old Boston Garden or the old OSU rink of about 185 feet. Also, seemed like a huge difference from the WJC (bigger difference than I expected), but that could be the "production values" of the broadcast and the small rink. Gibson (going to OSU) was the player of the game for the U.S., IMO, but two goals in a 2-1 gold medal game is not bad either.

One of the nice things about the U17 US Program team (and I guess the U18 team as well) is because they do not have the Minnesota and New England high school/prep school players, that gives a lot of kids from non-traditional hockey areas a chance to play at a high level with presumably good coaching. Biggs (Cincy) and Grimaldi (did they say California?) are good examples. Should be interesting tonight.

That rink was crazy. Seemed like a really short neutral zone, and then the faceoff dots in the zone seemed really close to the nets. Not to mention the weirdly angled corners that produced some strange bounces.

Nice to see the US win the gold though. Hopefully the U20 team can do the same tonight.

Yes, it was a late addition to the NHL Network.

I realize that i'm breaking away from the TeamUSA talk here, but I just saw a stat yesterday that blew my mind: Miami has allowed 16 goals in 14 conference games...that's an amazing 1.14 GAA. I actually went back a counted each week to make sure it wasn't a typo. I could have believed it had we played the dregs of the CCHA and still had the meat of the conference schedule coming up. However, we all know the proverbial gauntlet that this team ran during the first half of the season (both in and out of conference). I'm looking at the remaining schedule and ***knocking on wood as I type*** there is a distinct possibility that we could dip below 1.00 GAA before the end of the season. We have a tune up against Robert Morris before the Ferris match up (very good team). Then a trip to Alaska (always a tough trip due to travel). Other than that it's pretty smooth sailing. [just knocked again for good measure]I say this mainly because everything else is either at home or an easy road game. That is, right up until the finale @ OSU.

I look at that schedule and there is a possibility of not too many points being scored.

Giving up a home run in Great American Ballpark is kind of like walking into a chocolate factory and yelling "I WANNA BE FAT!!!"

It's going to happen. Just give it time.....and a little effort.

Hey rhm, do I need to give '08 the redhawkman lecture!? I have only one thing to say: there is a long way to go. The only game that matters right now is Friday in Pittsburgh. I seem to recall similar discussions/conjecture last year about this time. Three weeks later we had people abandoning ship. Then, of course, just as unexpectedly, we had a run. '08 just look at the scores around college hockey. There is no such thing as a sure thing any night and there is absolutely no such thing as "an easy road game." Repeat after me: Friday night in Pittsburgh is all that matter, Friday night in Pittsburgh is all that matters....

Sorry you missed the U17 game, rhm. You would have enjoyed it, quirkiness and all. Biggs looked good, a little lumbering on the skating dimension, but good size, physical, and he did finish. The first one was a nice setup by Grimaldi and Boucher(?), but his shot was very nice--top corner over the glove from a bit of an angle. I think you would have loved Grimaldi.

Man did i get filleted for that post!!! Holy Crap!!! I was simply making an observation, giving my kudos, and imagining "what if." Which, if you think about it, is exactly what we're all doing on this board.

I realize that you can't take a single weekend off - without a doubt. But has this team given you any single iota of an inkling that they would do that?? I have to say that this is by far the most even-keeled, level-headed team that I can remember. They simply play in this moment. That tells me not to worry about a let-down in the second half. Granted, any one of our opponents can play the game of their lives on any night. But I was only dreaming about a padded/inconsequential stat.

Also, you guys know that i'm generally not to big on speculation. I'm usually the realist that looks for more perfection. Also, i'm not a bandwagon guy. I was pretty positive all of last year - even through the tough times.

But I'm thrilled I was able to get someone to lecture me....it's just the dream of a lifetime.

Well biggs has never been a smooth skater. It was his knock when he was younger because he looked clumsy. But he hit a major growth spurt and when he fills out a little bit I think he will improve, especially in ann arbor and their program they have.

That is a bummer about the U-17 game I would of enjoyed that. I didn't check in on the channel because there was an off day for the world juniors. I ended up watching the fiesta bowl, which was entertaining in and of itself but haven't seen tyler play in a couple years.
