I think there is still a small gap between them and the top two but IMO they are clearly the third best team in the tournament. Tonight against Canada will be a great test as the canadians look to be on a mission and unbeatable.
didn't mean the chemistry of the 'states, but finland. half that team is from the same club, and we have been playing together for only a couple weeks. tonight will be the biggest test yet in seeing where they stand and what they can achieve in the tourney. last year the 'states got a lead then put on cruise control and it bit them in the ***

But with the way things have gone there have been things happening to them that havent in a really really long time. For instance getting swept in a weekend on home ice and loosing 4 in a row on home ice and loosing 5 straight.
first round bye isn't that much of a long shot right now. winning the league though? that's out of the picture. Alaska has the last spot and Michigan has 2 games in hand on them. If they can win those 2 then they are only 3 points back from #4. It'd take them to put together a good string of games though, which we haven't seen yet this season. It'd be a culture shock right now if Mich and ND didn't get a bye, since the three of our teams have pretty much been a staple of the top four since they came out with this format, but thats the way its heading.

Well they proved a lot last night. IMO they out played the canadians most of the game and left two breakaways on the ice. JD they have been playing together for more than just 2 weeks. Majority of this team like 14 some players were on the U-18 team that won the U-18 world championship last year. Not to mention a good bulk of these guys played together on the USNTDP teams growing up.

Cambell looked shaky at times last night, first goal was soft but boy the US looked good last night. Late in the game they went into too much of a defensive mode and were gripping the sticks too tight but after canada made it 4-3 you almost knew they would atleast tie it.

Well like I said to redeagle, normally I would agree with you. But they haven't shown anything that would lead me to believe they will put something together. No consistant scoring, goaltending hasn't been great, and they don't have much leadership. Cogliano and wohlberg haven't stepped up like they thought. They don't have a porter and Kolarik this year to take over a game. Statistically it isn't out of the question that they can't get a bye but if you go off of how they played in the first half and these two games the last couple of days I don't see it. Hogan gave up 2 goals on 3 shots in the first and 3 goals on 9 shots in two periods. And they looked bad against a tech team that lost 12-1 the night before. Not saying it is completely over but I don't see it from this team.

i understand that they have been in camps and programs growing up, but then you take them away from that and they only see each other in a camp over the summer and one week before the WJC starts. 'States gets a lead on canada again and gives up late, just like a year ago. swiss with a win over russia today. they looked like ferris out there, playing against a team with more talent and having to try to clog up the neutral zone and rely on a good goalie.

Yea I mean it isn't the same as plaing all year with them, but majority of them played most of last year together and won the U-18's which is basically the U-20 teams now. So they do have a pretty good familiarity with each other. Canada is really good, but US got caught in defensive mode and didn't capitalize on the chances they had. They lost in a skills competition which you can live with because of how well they played. They now have the confidence that they can shut down a team that has all of that talent.

Was snooping around the USNDTP and saw that Tyler Biggs is having a nice U-17 world championship with a line of 3-3 for 6 pts through their first 4 games. Also saw that Notre Dame has 5 commits from the USNTDP the most of any school. There is another ohio kid on the U-17 team J.T. Miller out of East Palenstine Ohio. Name doesn't ring a bell to me, may of seen him play before but he is having a nice tournament himself and isn't committed to anyone at this time.

if mullin was coming in with biggs and gacek that would be one hell of a class already. 2 weeks off already, still one more to go before our next game. hope we can knock some rust off against RMU

Well team USA should of just answered any questions people had about them tonight. Dominating 6-2 win over Finland and tied 2-2 against sweeden in a tight back and forth game they pull away and dominate the third winning 5-2. Gold medal game everyone wanted to see with the rematch of USA vs Canada on tuesday night. Boy this team plays extremely hard and fast. Great puck movement and team speed. I sure don't remember Danny Kristo playing this well against Miami, but he looks phenominal out there. Mike Lee who played Miami extremely tough opening weekend for St. Cloud has been stellar in net. I got a good feeling about this team and think they can take down the mighty canadians.

i thought kristo had a decent game in the one we saw him in, the guy who's actually playing well but was awful when we saw him i think is palmieri. looking at him in oxford compared to this tourney is a huge difference. sure glad ND didn't get fowler also with how he's played too

Heck, I thought they answered any questions vs. Canada! They have been the only team that's been able to compete with Canada - at least of those in the bracket since Canada didn't play any crossover teams with Switzerland's upset win over Russia. IMO, we have been the best looking team in the field with our tie with Canada (not accepting a shootout as a full-fledged loss...joke) and wins over Finland and two-time defending silver medalists, Sweden.

This is why the USNTDP is around...to get a medal in these international events. Gold would of course be preferred, but they have to get to the point where they are playing for any medal, and do it every year. This seems like a very good team that's well-coached by Blais.

Stepan, D'Amigo and Kristo have been very, very good in this tournament. I also don't remember Kristo making this kind of an impact vs. Miami, but he had certainly been hot for the Sue before the tourney. If those three haven't burned up their legs, their college teams should really see a huge boost by their return the respective lineups with how they are playing.

Truth! Palmieri was not a factor in the games against us. I can't remember if he played both nights, but he was certainly involved in the first one running Reichard at least twice. He definitely plays with an edge when he's on his game.

Is the championship game even going to be broadcast live? I can't seem to find any TV info for the game.
Love and honor to Miami forever and a day. Go RedHawks!

It's on the NHL network, rhbm. Kristo had his moments against Miami. Palmieri was a healthy scratch in the second ND game. That Stepan, Kristo, D'Amigo line is fun to watch. They seem to play well no matter who the opponent. Gotta love the way D'Amigo plays.

Something tells me he might not be at RPI next season.
