Re: UNH Wildcats 2010 off-season thread

Guys as much as you don't think so, the AD does want students there. They are truly interested in making the student section at the Whitt loud. They were even willing to print out my cheer sheets with ALL of the student cheers on them for me (even the ones they said they didn't really approve of). They were willing to listen to us in the past at the spirit meetings and did what we told them (moving the band, moving the student section at the Verizon, only playing one game at the Verizon on non-regional years -the issue of not playing Maine there was over looked though-, etc...). I would be willing to revamp my cheer sheet list to circulate during the first game at the Whitt. This was something that the Hosers had already discussed this past season to get people more into it (and get the lyrics of In Heaven There is No Beer out there because I love that song, play it more!).

I think there are several problems in atmosphere as discussed.

Personally, I hope the who sit next to us don't renew their season tickets, because they don't seem to know much about hockey, therefor contibuting little positive energy to the rest of the crowd, or the players.

I'm actually surprised it didn't occur to them to leave the Student Athletic Fee alone, and charge an additional fee for hockey tickets.

My point exactly. I love Casey's idea of having a contest early in the season, maybe at a football game or at the exhibition game.

They "listened," but all too often there was little action from their side.

The bands move was already in the works, as if you recall, you guys wanted them to stay on the other side. The argument was that you guys would lead the cheers on the box office side, and the band on the other. Athletics basically said the band moving was a done deal after they'd tried it once during the quarterfinals the previous year.

Also, the Verizon game thing came about due to the HUGE amount of flak they took from EVERYBODY about that. If you recall in those meetings, it was practically the only thing that the STH representatives brought up. The ADs compromise was that in the years when we host Maine only once, Dartmouth would be the only Verizon game. 09-10...1 Maine game...just Darty. 08-09...2 Maine games...Darty and Maine. 07-08...1 Maine game... just Darty. 06-07...2 Maine games...Darty and Maine. Prior to that was when we played BC, BU, BC, and Maine respectively along with Darty.

I've spent one season where I am, and want to move because of the people around me who have no clue. and are loud about it.

Actually, I think it was more because we didn't like the band back then (if Casey was leading them, she hadn't been for long).

I thought it was that UNH would have two games (Riverstone and a HEA game) in Manch only when UNH was hosting the NCAAs there. It happens to fall on the years we play Maine twice at home, but I hope to everything holy that they don't really intend to have a Maine game there every other year.

That was my point. The ADs decision to move the band didn't come out of those focus groups. It had been given a trial run the previous year during the HEA quarterfinals. And Svanoe was the director at that time.

The ADs argument was that they wanted to give more people an opportunity to see not only UNH, but specifically the Maine game, where tickets are almost always scarce. Thus, the compromise in having one at the Whitt, and one at the Verizon.

See, I remember Maine coming up because that was who we'd play there next, not every time. If it is like you say, that's pretty f-ing idiotic.

I don't remember them saying Maine was going to be played there every other year. I remember us saying not to, but my memory isn't always the best.

Also, I know the people down front like to sing the National Anthem, maybe let the band take it a little more often so the students can sing along. Not that there is anything wrong with the singers they bring in of course (we all love the Rev.) but many of them stylize it so it's not easy to sing along.

                                Just throwing ideas out there.
