Wow!! Looks like both games against Maine @ home in February will be at the Whitt...that is, unless Marty caves in again and puts the Saturday game at the Verizon. God I hope not.

Would you consider Foster a "goaltender"?

      Last year's start:
      Miami 6 GA
      Miami 5 GA

      Wisconsin 4 GA
Wisconsin 4 GA (not a full game)

      UMass Lowell 6 GA

Don't let me catch you jumping on DiGi, if he has a rough time with good teams in the early part of the season next year.

I'm glad to see that I was wrong and that the second Maine game isn't at the Verizon. Maybe Marty finally wised up.

"Will "Car Bomb" explode or implode Monday night at United Center?
Dan Carcillo will be back in the Flyers’ lineup.
Anyone who watched Game 1 of this Stanley Cup Final series knows the Flyers weren’t their usual nasty selves. Their physical play lacked.
“Yeah, no kidding,” Carcillo said Monday morning before the pregame skate.
Flyers coach Peter Laviolette would not confirm the change, which will also see rookie James van Riemsdyk come out of the lineup." www.csnphilly.com

Some good pregame chittalk between Carcillo and Burish. Slapshot style on the redline as they were skating by several times. Would like to see Burish scramble that turd's face.

Trivino has never been one of those players. Even outside of the rink, he'll say hi and is plenty of friendly, but has never been even close to saying or doing anything inappropriate.

Would anyone notice the difference if Carcillo's face got scrambled?

The two games against Miami, UNH spent the entire night on the run trying to catch up to them. Fosters solid play got better as the year went on, but it was a direct result of the defense in front of him getting better -- almost from game to game.

Interesting you chose to leave out the shot totals from the Wisco series, where I believe they outshot UNH something like 95-35 over the two games. Foster was on his game to only allow 4 goals.

As for DiGi; hopefully, the defense in front of him plays well. Foster was already the established goaltender when UNH had their tough start last year, and you knew, save an injury, Brian would be in net. I'm afraid if thing start poorly for UNH this coming year, too many will calling for DiGi to sit. Tough way for a mostly untested goalie to get broken in.
I haven't been on here in a year...
Now I'm a dad. Holy crap.

FYI - The Hockey East site has a couple of short interviews with James van Riemsdyk. http://www.hockeyeastonline.com/men/.../jvr060510.php

Given the limited exposure that DiG has had in net on the college level, I am not expecting much from him... But over the history of Dick Umile hockey at UNH, they've relied heavily on goaltending and open hockey (read no defense). That being said DiG's stats speak for themselves, he has a save percentage in the mid 80's (YIKES!!!!) and a goals against average somewhere in the 4's. (Last year an empty net kept more goals out than DiG did)

Will I be jumping down DiG's throat??? No... Will I be questioning the recruiting and coaching and exposure at the goaltending position??? Absolutely... He has played 8 games at UNH, with only 4 of those being starts(had to do quick math on his freshman year, 218 minutes played sounds like 3 starts and clean-up duty to me) In comparison Foster started 4 games in Regan's jr year and 6 in Regan's sr year...

If you cannot see a large hole in the upcoming team, keep drinking the Kool-Aid...

Guess I've been drinking too much Kool-Aid. Do I think DiGi will take some time to settle in? Of course! I never said he is well experienced, but that serves to my point - how can you judge ("tell if unh has found a goaltender early") how he will perform throughout the season in the first 5ish games (his 6-10ish starts ever)? When most of those games are against some of the toughest competition all season.

it doesnt take a rocket scientist to see its all about those regular season titles for umile. he wont do anything that would jeoporadize regular season wins - even at the expense of long term or (gasp) post season gains.

I am as anxious as anyone to see how DiGirolamo will do this coming season. But, Umile would have been questioned even more than he was this past season if he had started DiGi instead of a healthy Foster in just about any regular season game, as every game counts for the almighty PWR. DiGi was good in juniors so we need to overlook his disastrous starts two years ago when Foster was hurt. A good goalie may get your team to the post-season, but no goalie is going to prevail in a game such as that against RIT when the rest of the team does not show up.
