More kudos for and from JvR:
Note the picture of him as a kid - about the time he received the first e-mail from Coach Borek - and his perspective on the UNH years.

They don't owe anything on that rink though. I believe UNH is still paying for theirs. When you already own the rink you have extra money for other things.

And when you have donkies running the thing it's kinda pointless. I mean is it that hard to find someone who can follow the play with a camera (and stay till the end of the game to keep time).

And, you can't see the **** scoreboard from the corners under the balconies.

Put all the money into that building you want, the facility itself is still a DUMP. It was never designed to hold as many people as it does.

Maine must be very careful if they do rebuild the Alfond; change too much (like how the balcony is practically straight over the goalie) and you'll lose the awesome fan atmosphere that is the only saving grace of that building. If Maine Hockey didn't sell tickets, the Alfond would have been replaced long, long ago.
I haven't been on here in a year...
Now I'm a dad. Holy crap.

Maine is too poor to replace the Alfond any time soon. Unfortunately we like to put band aids on things
I finally moved my season tickets because I was sick of not being able to see the score board (old tickets behind the goal Maine shoots at twice in the back row by the railing). It wouldn't hurt my feelings if they tore the thing down, I just don't see it happening any time soon.

              Don't forget the potatoes!!!

How come they get a rich donor for their rink, and we get a rich donor for our rink, and they get a jumbo-tron daktronickie thing, and we end up in debt?

(PS, thanks for info on seamless glass - I HAVE seen it before!!! )

Seamless glass is great for viewing, no doubt, but from what I've seen it does not "give" as readily as standard glass and is more likely to cause injury to a player.

psh. Seemless glass would be great for UNH. It's not like our dmen know how to lay a hard body check.

Hey, sorry I'm so late to the party, but I'd just like to throw my two cents in here. I'm from Portsmouth and have gone to UNH games since I was little, and would like to see the student section return to the intensity it had.

At BC next year, we are going to have chant sheets, but one thing we will also have that you may want to consider is including information about teams UNH will play later on in the season and chants specifically made for each team. We think that this will get students coming back beyond the first game, and make them feel like they are welcome to start the chants

Also, we are planning on putting together a student tailgate every weekend before the games to get everyone together and interacting. If the casual fans can get some interaction with us rabid fans, perhaps they'll recognize that we WANT them to participate.

Ok, back to the flamefest. UNH sucks

I know, there are about 30-40 of us that get really into it, but either nobody else knows or nobody else seems to care enough. It's quite depressing actually.

This is actually a really good idea. It would also clue fans in ahead of time that there will be different cheers for different games.

This would be a good idea, but I think it's a challenge logistically at UNH.

BC students never needed cheer sheets before? I guess that makes sense - how hard is it to remember two cheers?

Probably because BC fans have better things to do that sit in the arena lobby 3 hours before gametime sitting indian style coloring signs...

The best chants are random. I remember in the 2005 Hockey East semis vs. BU, BC scored a ton of goals and chased Terriers goalie John Curry. BU fans chanted "Where's your Beanpot?" and immediately BC fans respond with "Where's your goalie?". That was awesome. Chant sheets? Come on. That's something UNH and UVM fans do.

Like stealing jokes from Nick and Carmine?

(And honestly, I can't think of the last time I colored a sign. I have to be there because of my tickets; usually I just read if I'm the first one there.)
