Yea wouldn't want Mich to drop out at all, that'd be 2 TUC wins thrown out. We are so close with some teams that the 1 loss to UNO may help things stay our way. It won't matter if we don't pick up some Ws this weekend though.

I will be upfront in that I did not watch a single second of hockey this weekend (except Olympics). So I can't comment on the play in the UNO series. That said:

I'm sure that I am in the minority, but I am not a huge believer in the "good loss" concept. I hate losing (obviously), but this is an acceptable loss. I don't think any of us thought that Miami would run the conference table after January (at least I hope not). There are just too many good teams that know each other extremely well - in any conference, not just the CCHA. So for Miami to have had only 1 loss from October to February is more than any of us could have asked for.

Also, if a team can't gain focus after a loss - any loss - they shouldn't be playing. I don't think they should place any more emphasis on this loss, or on the upcoming OSU series, than they have on any other series leading up to this. Do they have areas in which to improve? Absolutely. But I just can't buy into the idea that this team is better off because of the loss.

I'm not respnding to anyone in particular; just the general "good loss" comments above.
      Long live the "Brotherhood"!!!!!

Giving up a home run in Great American Ballpark is kind of like walking into a chocolate factory and yelling "I WANNA BE FAT!!!"

It's going to happen. Just give it time.....and a little effort.

I haven't seen a thread on this, so I thought I'd just put it on here:

I hope most everyone got to see the USA-Canada hockey game, because it was the absolute epitome of what hockey is at its best. It was hard-hitting, highly skilled hockey at an frenetic for the entire 60 minutes. There were men giving up the body at every turn. I don't think a man on either team could get in more than 3 strides without getting bruised off of the puck. I watched part of the Russia-Check Rep game in the afternoon, and am watching the Finland-Sweden game now. Neither of these games comes anywhere close to the physicality of the USA-Canada game. It was truly a joy to watch.

        GO USA!!!

Even though this is a pretty big rivalry I don't think anyone could expect the physical play of the US/Canada game in this Fin/Swede matchup. This has finesse written all over it.

Swedes up 3-0. If they get a 6 goal win then they bump the States and get the #1 seed.

As a Wings fan I feel obligated to root for Sweden in this game, but at the same time I am then rooting for Peter Forsberg...talk about contradictory .

So how many people will be making the trip over to Columbus this weekend, over/under on the crowd being over 50% Miami fans again?

Last game we were sitting behind a group of about 50 little kids who were quite enamored with our goal chant although one of the dads was less then pleased with our clean, albeight constant, heckling.

well some on here had said they should win out, but won't name names.

Now in response I will say this, you are correct to a certain extent. Good loses are cliche, but this loss will be good for the team IMO. And yes there is a difference. I believe this loss will bring them back down to earth similar to what the Robert Morris losses did and will force them to re focus for the stretch run. You look at what happened to them in the conference tournament at home last year and, IMO, I believe those losses were the key ingredient in re-dedicating this team to prove themselves and is what got them to the title game. Who knows if they would of gotten there had they beaten NMU, but they did without beating them. Guess my point is at this level if you get on a roll and start steamrolling teams like they have you can get lost in things, but a loss like the one on saturday can bring you back down to earth a little bit and actually be beneficial. It also gives the coaching staff a lot to use as a teaching tool. Gives them a lot to work on during the week and you can get their attention a little easier because all you have to do is remind them they got their butt whipped this weekend. And lets be honest UNO whipped them in all fazes even though the score was 4-2.

Just my take on things, no one wants to lose like you said and the term "good loss" is cliche but there can be a lot of positive things that come out of a loss.

More to it with all the hype all over majority of tv networks and radio all day on sunday, and not just sports networks, I think there were a lot of people tuning in that don't normally watch hockey. And you have to believe that some will tune in again because that was one of the most intense fantastic hockey games I have ever seen. And for the casual viewer that had to be a joy to watch!

What can you say about the effort the US team put forth last night, but it was phenominal!

My roommate (not a huge hockey fan) got home after the game chanting "USA!!! USA!!!" after midnight. it was quite amusing! Those kinds of effort are exactly the kinds that casual fans love to see and will only help grow the interest in hockey here in the States.

My only hope is that the casual fans don't start expecting to win gold. It is possible, don't get me wrong. However, we still have to beat Switzerland again (most likely) and the Czech/Finland winner. It's much easier without having to play one of the Triad before the Finals, but it will be very difficult to get there. I just don't want the fans to be too distressed if it doesn't happen. A silver or bronze would still be a huge victory in my book.

I don't think "no gold" would lose the potential fans gained from last night. The perfromance was incredible, and I thinkt he passion and intensity not to mention the speed and incredible action is what will intrigue people the most and get them to maybe tune into some NHL games and possibly gain new fans. To me the game last night wasn't about winning gold for the casual viewer, I think some people watched because they heard everyone talking about it. When 1980 happened the game took a big jump forward, from what I was told lol, and I just hope after the strike happened that last nights game and performance will bring the game back a little.

I was watching the game at a buddy's apartment last night, with 3 minutes to go in the game his roommate's girlfriend, who had been intensely watching the whole time, asked how many innings were left. While the NHL will not gain such people as fans, you would hope that maybe some who have not made an effort to seek out games since the strike will tune back in.

Getting playoff games off the Hunting and Fishing network might have a positive effect on popularity as well lol.

A lot of my buddies have been complaining about the game last night being on MSNBC instead of regular NBC. They're not the biggest fans, but at least they watched the game. But they don't know how much of a backseat puck has taken to things like "Ice Dancing", "Scrabble Championships", "1981 World Series of Poker", and "Dominos Championships".

Some of us are a couple years young, but don't forget that the 1980 US/Russia game wasn't live on the TV machine at all, it was tape delayed.
