Talked to one of the supervisors of TeamOps today, this is what he told me.

NU student tries to the boxes via the elevator, clearly it is guarded. He said he had an agreement with Baldwin to meet him up there to play fight or something. TeamOps guarding elevator radios head of hockey. Head of hockey says no. TeamOps denies entry into the elevator. Kid goes away tail between his legs. Heads back to the elevator and claims he has tickets up there, the TeamOps person says show me the ticket. Obviously the moron doesn't have it and the supervisor sees what's going on and recommends staying in his seat. Kid goes back to seat and later he tries again to go to the elevator. Supervisor sees him and turns him around, says it's in his best interest to leave. Kid retreats to seats. BCPD shows up and asks the moron if the supervisor told him to leave. He responds that it was in his best interest but didn't kick him out. BCPD says, "Good then I'll kick you out". Doghouse leaves & misses Hayes kick the extra point.

Apparently NU's AD came to BC that weekend and said if there was any trouble to kick any NU student out and take his ID.

I know one of the supervisors. He stopped by my seat tonight to say hello. Asked him if there was any problem with the NU students. He said, no, not really, but then told me the same story you just told (except he didn't call the kid a moron ). He chuckled and said, 'just kids being kids'.

Of course, some will say that TeamOps denied this particular student his God given right to be an azz hat. But then again, someday those someone's will eventually understand what life is like in the real world.

The TeamOps King that has a personal problem with me thought he finally had me today.

I have student tickets, but was in the pep band today, so I came in and got my ticket scanned (tried to find a taker, but I couldn't GIVE the thing away). My friend wanted me to bring him a jersey because he left his in his room and had to work late, so I walked down there with the jersey and my trumpet before I went to the band room, and then walked back to the band room.

TeamOp King (TOK from here on) stops me and, all smugly, like he finally got the better of me, initiates this conversation with me:

TOK: MISTER SALZANO! George Lewis, TeamOps. [shakes my hand. He knows I know who he is because of our previous run-ins]

                Me: Hey, how are you?

TOK: I spoke with the event coordinator, and you are NOT allowed to play your trumpet! [last time I went over his head to get permission at a game over break where there was no pep band and he got all p!$$ed]

Me: Err..... well..... I mean..... I'm in the pep band today. So... I think I'm allowed to play my trumpet.

TOK: Oh... you're... in the band?

                Me: Yeah.

TOK: Like... the actual pep band?

                Me: Yeah.

TOK: [Long pause] Oh. Okay then. [Walks away, extremely frustrated]

I remember this, I also remember the BU band director seeing this, getting on his headset to the agganis staff and screaming at the top of his lungs, 'THEYRE NOT LETTING FREAKING SASQUATCH IN!!!!' Sasquatch was allowed into 118 a couple of minutes later.

My last encounter with this guy was bad. We had no pep band so I asked if I could play my trumpet. The first guy said no, so I asked who would be the people I could talk to that would have the authority to give me permission. They sent up the TeamOps King. He also said no, and I asked who was above him that could give me permission (since TeamOps has nothing to do with stuff like that).

He called the Associate AD for me, and (I had no idea he was mad at me at the time) and while we were waiting I said to him "I really appreciate you helping me out, I'm not trying to go over your head or anything, I'm just looking for who could give me permission, that's all" and I shook his hand.

Associate AD says I need to talk to the event coordinator and that he would get him for me after the anthem.

I never see the guy after the anthem, so I ask TOK if he'll call the Associate AD for me. He refuses, VERY angrily, and tells me that he will *not* get him, because I went over his head and took it out of his hands, and so he would not help me.

I was stunned by how rude he was, but didn't bother arguing with him. Instead I went to another TeamOps supervisor who called him for me.

I ended up getting permission, but after the game I was upset with how rude he was so I wanted to get his name so I could send an email to the right people.

This whole time I had been so polite to him. I went out of my way to thank him for helping me and shook his hand. I went up to him after the game and asked him for his name, and he said "No, this is over, you need to LEAVE."

Me: "No, I would really like your name please."
                              TOK: "No. Leave now."
Me: "You aren't going to give me your name?"
                              TOK: No.
                              Me: "Okay."

At this point I was fed up with him and was tired of trying to be so polite to someone who was being so rude to me. I walked - literally - ten feet away, down a few steps, to where another TeamOps employee was, and asked what the guys name was, who gave it to me.

Needless to say, this really, really, REALLY p!$$ed off the TOK. He almost sprinted up to me and said:

TOK: "Okay, now I want to see *your* ID."
Me: "No, you have no right to my ID."
                              TOK: "Oh yes I do!"
BCWH Superfan joe: "No, you don't."
Me: "Look, if you have any right to my ID, put a hand on me and stop me or call BCPD. Otherwise, I'm out of here. Seeeee ya!"

That night I sent an email to the BC Associate AD, and the head of HR at TeamOps, outlining what happened. The BC assoc. AD got back to me and said he dealt with it and it wouldn't happen again. We'll see.

We have another two games coming up over break where there won't be a band, so to avoid any confusion I sent an email asking for permission to play ahead of time.

                                Sigh...

You get what you pay for with private security companies. NU, BC, and BU can't afford to hire out their entire police departments for details at the hockey games. A few years ago when NU was getting 1,000 people at a game, we couldn't even justify paying for private security. There were a few police officers working the detail and they were mainly there to handle the occasional medical emergency or escort out the belligerently drunk freshman who was bothering some of the older people in attendance with overly graphic descriptions of his private parts.

Now, we draw at least a couple thousand students at most games and a lot more non-students, so there are inevitably more issues. Mix that with a bunch of private security personnel who are given very limited instruction on what exactly their role is and it's a recipe for disaster. I'm not making any excuses for the poor discretion of the security officers, or the alleged actions of any students who incur their wrath, I'm just saying it's a powder keg.

Bottom line, RSIG and TeamOps recruit from a very different applicant pool than law enforcement agencies.
