trumpish disinformation from the sound of it
and if you bothered reading the NCAA report, you’d see the pudding violation…that, and the”borrowed a truck to move furniture when that same truck was not on loan to every other student at the university

Among the various infractions "too much pudding" was definitely one of them. From the infractions report:
"Between 1986 and 1994, numerous men's ice hockey student-athletes received extra benefits, including lodging and meals, from representatives of the institution's athletics interests through a sponsor-family program. The institution and head men's ice hockey coach failed to prevent the benefits from continuing even after the formal discontinuation of the program in 1991."
"During the 1984-85 through 1993-94 academic years, men's ice hockey student-athletes received extra benefits when they were provided meals in the dining hall that were not part of their financial aid awards."
Not sure where the whole video taping practices thing came from but that wasn't anything that was listed in the report so I'm guessing it's just rumor.
(But, yeah, it was certainly an egregious violation of NCAA rules if a local mom served the boys some meat loaf. Probably should have shot the entire team for that.)

But all those infractions added up to the point where they used the dreaded “lack of institutional control” in the doc which kind of forced the NC$$ to do something.
I’ll link the full report for those curious when I’m on my PC in the morning: LINKLast edited by tylerzx2002; 11-21-2024, 09:27 AM.

As long as The Friars keep the scoring of Leonard and Perrault to a minimum, they should get the win.NCAA Champs 2012, 2010, 2008, 2001, 1949, Hockey East Tourney Champs 2012 #11, Beanpot Champs 2016

Maine is playing for 2nd place this season along with BU, Providence and UMass-Lowell. Would love to get a shot at the Eagles again at the Garden....preferably in the championship game. Maine is still in the running for a #1 NCAA seed as well but they are going to have to take down Denver at least once for that to happen....plus win at a pretty high clip in the league.

Definitely a lot more to it than Cal, but most of it is stuff that we’d scoff at nowadays in the NIL era. Hell most of it was probably overkill back then if we’re being honest.
Let's go ahead and acknowledge that there were $20 dollar handshakes up the framma-zamma back in The Day. it was just a question of who got caught.
I actually like how it is now, better. Far less sanctimonious BS.

I read this today in the preview of the game on goblackbears.com “Current Maine assistant coach Alfie Michaud had seven career wins against UNH, including a stretch of five-straight beginning with a Feb. 1, 1998 win and stretching to the April 3, 1999 National Championship, 3-2, overtime win at Arrowhead Pond.” I question if this is true because I remember UNH swept Maine at Whitemore that year at the end of the regular season. Maybe he didn’t play in that series at UNH? Morrison played in 11 games that year, but I doubt he would have played in that UNH series to close the season unless Alfie was hurt.
