They mentioned a limit on roster size potentially. What is the purpose of having a roster size limit?
I found the answer here: https://www.collegehockeyinsider.com...use-settlement

Evidently there will be a roster size cap at 26 but each player can get a scholarship. Right now there is a limit of 18 full scholarships. So evidently there will be an expansion to 26 full time scholarships. This actually sounds great for the players at the bottom of the roster. Instead of a partial or no scholarship you can have full scholarship. No doubt teams will be offering major junior players scholarships now to get the best depth with that extra scholarship money. Hopefully Maine’s proximity to QMJHL can land some players from that league.

Where does the money come from to add 8 scholarships?

There was a donation recently for to improve student athlete experience. If that 16 million was invested and the interest on a conservative investment yielding 4% annually you would have enough for 19 out of state tuition scholarships at $33,600 dollars just using the interest, so principal remains in tact.

I’m guessing there are financial folks that are making investments and finding ways to use donations to fund these extra 8 scholarships.

It doesnt seem that its really all that much out of pocket for the school, more of not getting that income. It costs something for each student but all the structure is in place anyway. They have plenty of room for bringing in students, its not like it would displace other paying 8 students.
Of course this extends somehow to all the sports, the 8 is just hockey. Wonder how many in total it could be.

I dont know how the coaches feel about limiting roster size to 26. Having 27 or 28 seems like it could be an advantage some years.
The last paragraph of that write up is interesting, the schools can opt in or not. What happens if not.

I think if you don’t opt in you have no roster cap size limit, but 18 scholarship limit as it is today. Likely you will have better depth getting 26 full scholarship roster. Easier to convince a good recruit to take a full scholarship vs. a partial or no scholarship. So the bottom of the roster will be better talent, likely. So to remain competitive you want Maine opting in. And you want to get on the front end of the waive of landing major junior players to create a pipeline there. So I say load up next year with major junior recruits and transfer portal players.

                  • Bangor daily has an article mentioning Djuresevic had a rough year off ice last year because his mother died.

Says his family will be up for the games this weekend, so hope he has a great weekend. He has transferred in seamlessly and is leading the team in minutes played per game.

I’m pretty sure the school charges the athletic department full freight.

26 is plenty. I don’t think it makes a lot of sense to have a bunch of guys sitting around and once you get past the 22nd or 23rd guy on the roster they rarely make much impact anyway.

On a slightly different topic I would like to see the 19th skater done away with and instead be able to make one substitution to your team during the game.

The umaine system funds the dept to some extent doesnt it, somehow.

Roster size sets up competition for play time, three goalies so that leaves 23 skaters, two or three injuries things get tighter.

Arnott is in, Dalton is in Lesakowski's spot.

Lesakowski took a nasty hit last game. I wonder if he has lingering injury.
