    • Well into NHL free agent signing season and still no word on anyone picking up JvR for next season. Rumors had the Ducks, Avs (Parise and Cogliano retired), and Panthers (Tarasenko left) as possible destinations in need of a middle six forward for cheap money.

TvR is signed with the Caps on a three-year contract through the 2025/26 season for $9 mil ($3 mil/ season).

Pesce just signed a six-year contract with the Devils through the 2029/30 season for $33 mil ($5.5 mil/season).

Foegele just signed a three-year contract with the Kings through the 2026/27 season for $10.5 mil ($3.5 mil/season).

CdS just signed a three-year contract with the Stars through the 2026/27 season for $3 mil ($1 mil/season).

Crookshank just signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Senators for the 2024/25 season for $775,000.

JvR is pretty much cooked. He's not really even a "middle six forward" at this point, at least not at the NHL level. He could still find a home with a team that values him as a power play specialist to stand in front of the goalie, but most NHL power plays have moved on from the old model to one that focuses on perimeter possession and seam passes for one-time weak side shots, to move opposing goalies from post to post. So-called "bumpers" in the high slot have to some degree made the old JvR-friendly model functionally obsolete. We're probably gonna find out in the next few months how badly JvR still wants to play (or not). Vancouver lost some pop, so maybe that's where he lands? Question is, does a 35 year old guy (36 in midseason next year) who has earned well into 8 figures and played his entire career in the Eastern time zone want to go West for mere peanuts, and only a fair shot at a Cup??

Kudos to brother TvR for a very good contract at his age (33). In the meantime, little bro Brendan looks to have hung up his competitive skates for good after netting a haul of six (6) career goals in the Coast over parts of three seasons, and is using his Northeastern Masters' degree to run his own little start-up, doing God knows what.

CDS has basically become the Ty Conklin of his generation as a career NHL backup, which is remarkable considering how he almost drove his whole career into a ditch a few Labor Day weekends ago in Durham. As far as Crookshank, as discussed earlier, this is pretty much "make or break" season for him in terms of an NHL career. Good luck all.

You are probably right about JvR’s NHL prospects for this coming season, although my guess is that he would play for “peanuts” if given the opportunity. JvR leads UNH in NHL games played over his 15 seasons (1011), ahead on Rod Langway (994 NHL games over 15 seasons, although Langway also played 52 games in the WHA before his NHL run).

Any ideas on what contracts pay in the Swiss league? Dan Winnik, who is third in NHL games played for UNH alums (978 over 14 seasons), has played the past six seasons for Geneva Sevette. One cannot say that either of these guys has not been durable, and my guess is that either might play for minimal compensation for the love of the game.

TvR’s current contract will give him 12 NH seasons played, Pesce’s new six-year contract could give him 15 NHL seasons played, matching Langway and JvR, and Foegele’s new three-year contract could give him nine NHL seasons played. Foegele has played all 82 regular season games in two of the past three seasons.

With his new three-year contract, CdS (165 NHL games played over six seasons, 71-54-21) could surpass Ty Conklin’s 216 NHL games played (96-67-21) over eight seasons.

              • About a page back there was mention of a tweet that Ryan Conmy “was a real dog” at the Kings camp, which led me to be provocative and speculate that maybe Conmy would be accelerated in development and be “one and done” at UNH.

WiSh I could tell you Chuck? Old post just appeared. What I had submitted was that they have usually welcomed the incoming freshmen by now. Yes. I am aware that most of us already know. They should build a little excitement. I know, why start now?
would also like to see the schedule.

                              • Thanks for schedule, Scott and HR.

Good to see that Bentley is back on the UNH schedule. Their all-time series is tied 2-2-0, but Bentley leads in total goals scored 15-12.
