  • >>>RIT Tigers - 2023-2024 Season<<<

Looks like we need a new one of these.

Season starts tomorrow at St. Lawrence. 1280 AM WHTK (I'm assuming?), 89.7 WITR for radio, and ESPN+ for video. Odd 6:05 puck drop but with ESPN+ you can pretty much watch it when you want.

    Go Tigers!

Disappointed by how they came out on Saturday. Very sloppy, pucks going to the front of their own net needlessly, blown coverage early resulting in a goal against. I thought they played better the 2nd two periods, but the margin in the first ended up being the final margin. Congrats to Fukakusa on his first career goal.

Typical ECAC though. Close game going into the 3rd? FOUR STRAIGHT PENALTIES!

Lots of rust out there Saturday night, That's for sure. sloppy passing from the get go seems to be a sign that it's going to be a long night for the Tigers. Will be interesting to see how they do with ND this weekend. Hopefully sharp from the start, and as Wilson says "aggression with poise".

Nice to see the Fukakusa and Catalano contributing right away. This freshman class has a lot of possibilities for the next four years and should be fun to watch them grow.

BTW, Any way I can get an invite to the Corner Crew Discord server? Seems like that is where all the discussion happens.

I know this thread's mostly dead in favor of the discord, but congrats to Tommy Scarfone for being the Hockey Commissioners Association's NCAA goalie of the month for October!

I hope we can spell him a little more this season with Lush (this Saturday against Army, perhaps)? It seems like Tommy's been a little worn down towards the end of the season the last couple of years.

Definitely need to get Lush some game time before the holiday break so he's not completely rusty when the January / February rush starts. I think that's when we really risk getting Scarfone run down. Got to build up the teams confidence in Lush early so that it's easier to make the decision to go away from a guy playing as solid as Scarcone.

              Officially ranked!

Maybe we can actually hold on to it for a couple weekends this time around :-)

Yeah but if you put him out there and we lose again, there'll be no confidence to be had.

Putting him out against his former team may have been a bit of a mistake. A little to much pressure on him in his first start, and added incentive for the guys he left. He has a proven track record over 4 years, and I doubt he lost it by transferring to RIT. This weekend against Mercyhurst may be a good chance to get him a start, and build both the team and fans confidence in him.

You have to build someone into the backup position, just to give Scarfone a break when he needs it and as insurance incase the unthinkable happens.

#12 New Hampshire vs. #20 RIT coming to the Pollesini over Thanksgiving. Feeling like New Hampshire is a little underranked given what they've done so far. Hopefully the boys are up for it!

Who were RIT's on-air talent tonight on FloHockey?
Talk about 'homers,' these two make those at North Dakota and Cornell look like 'down-the-middle' PPV journalists.

"It could have been a quick whistle, but it was a no-goal."
Umm... it could have been a late whistle, and it was a no-goal.
Heck... it could have been an on-time whistle, and it was a no-goal.
Let's face it... it was a NO-GOAL. No argument from the RIT coach. Sheesh!

Now, they are calling Canisius' third-period goal a 'flukey goal.'

And, in the OT, they are comparing a penalty to RIT to embellishment on the part of Canisius. Hello??!!

And a Canisius win in OT 'stings.' Stings? You are just calling a game, not trying to call it one way over the other. This one is too rich.

                      Thanks, "Rocky" & John.

Rocky is the normal PA announcer for RIT Men's Hockey, who has YEARS of play by play experience. He does do pxp for RIT Women's hockey but stepped in because the normal men's pxp guy had another commitment with the rescheduled game. John has been doing color commentary for RIT Men's Hockey for almost 15 years now, starting when games were shown locally on TV. He is a well known sports guy in the Rochester area. Both are on RIT's payroll, and are expected to be homers. These two have more passion for RIT hockey than I've ever seen anyone have for Canisius Hockey. And, when I watch them, I want them to be homers. It's exciting for me to sense their excitement.

Let's be fair about those calls you talked about - that should have been a goal, but there was a quick whistle. The ref wasn't in a great position and blew the play dead when he lost sight of it. The puck then went over the line and into the net. The ref started to signal goal, then quickly waved no goal. What argument can be made from the RIT coach? It's not anything that could have been over turned.

The penalty in OT was warranted. But, I also believe there was a bit of an extra flop from the goalie. I wouldn't have called embellishment either, but it looks like his falling was from more than just the hit.

And yes, the loss stings. RIT should have won that game. RIT has a much better record than Canisius this year, but Canisius has found ways to win against RIT for the past few seasons. It's frustrating as a fan.

So far this has been one the more consistent seasons over the past few years. Some shakey games over the past few weeks though - seems normal for them about this time in the season though. Lets hope things stay together & at least get a bye for the conference tournement.

most have migrated to the Discord. More on that in a sec.

Congrats to the Tigers season. They achieved every reasonable goal they could have had given the conference they play in and gave BU all they could handle. That's a different game if they cash one or two of those early chances. Instead BU gets the first, we panic a little, bad pinch, and boom it's 2. There's absolutely no shame in losing to the #2 overall team.

I do suddenly see maybe a role for both the uscho board and discord. Discord seems uninterested in being anything but cheerleaders. Which is fine and not a criticism. If that's what they want that space for, that's their perogative. But that's where I foresee maybe here as a place where we can maybe have more level-headed conversations about the team. It was all good while we were in Atlantic Hockey play where RIT were clearly the favorites, but people clearly did not like to hear there that we were even underdogs heading into a matchup with #2. I plan on (non-antagonistically) posting something similar on the discord tomorrow - once I'm not banned for finally snapping at people calling me a non-fan for daring to suggest a two goal lead after two against #2 would be tough to overcome - inviting people here if they want to talk RIT puck while taking the homer glasses off (or at least maybe peaking out from those shades every now and then even). I see roles for both the discord and this thread going forward. Hopefully there's enough people who want to talk more the x's and o's and analysis without getting offended to re-vitalize this thread for next year.

RIT's future is bright. We're one class into recruiting with scholarships. But it's always going to be tough in the AHA, having to win the playoffs to make the NCAA. But I will say I feel the rest of the AHA had about as good a chance to beat us as we had to beat BU. If that relationship continues, we will win some more NCAA games going forward.
