I think it is reasonable to step back before leaping forward.
Genderon 2017-2020 - .526%, .472%, .603%, (note: lots of ties in Genderon's 7 years - high water mark for wins was 18, twice)

    Barr 2021-2024 - .273%, .486%, .676% (22 wins in year 3 and counting)

You are replacing the coach so something isn't going right. The new guy needs a little time to change coaches, players, systems, culture. Souza's 6 err 9 years is WAY to long to see results.

I think it is the first 90 day mentality of business (or 100 days in office), as the AD you should be able to see the strategy and plan pretty quickly, by year 2-3 you can tell if the guy can execute.

P.S. intentionally skipped 2020-2021 covid year of 15 games.

That is something that makes me want to have a new coach more not less.

This teams Power Play is a train wreck. They score on individual plays not based on scheme. They aren't improving either, more the other way around, getting worse.
But when was the last time that the Cats planted two players uselessly behind the opposing net for 5 on 3 power plays?

yeah - now it is 5 guys ringing around the 4 man box, get just the right view on TV and you would wonder where all the UNH players are at. If the object is the "4 corners offense" and keep away it works. Problem is on the PP you normally want to score not waste the 2 minutes passing the puck harmlessly around the offensive zone.

Because none of our players want to get pounded in front of the net, where a screen or a tip in might actually happen.

I have been impressed with how JvR has made his living getting pounded on the PP in front of NHL nets since he left UNH.

          • Looks like Ring is out tonight. That's too bad that 4th line was really gelling.

              I don't agree.

It isn't a "player" problem it is a scheme problem. There are a number of guys willing to go in there. The UNH scheme doesn't know what to do with the player in front of the net.

                          • Win up in Maine moves probably to 14 in the power , win one more and you're NCAA bound . In other words make the finals in Hockey east and you make it . None the less congrats on 20 wins , never thought it would happen

                              • So I’ve been reading these posts for 20 years, and I have to say while I love the enthusiasm of the handful of posters, some of these threads are not even coherent. The sports talk radio culture has created unrealistic timelines on team success. Obviously, everyone wants a winning team - but the constant negativity, even after wins is exhausting. If I watched sports like that, I would immediately stop and take up another hobby. A couple of people here have been running MS7 out of Durham before he even got the job. Now, while the rebuild has taken a bit longer than even he hoped, he has taken a team that was picked next to last in the polls in the preseason, and put them in the Top 20 all year. They had some huge wins against Top 10 teams, earned a home ice game, won it, now has 20 wins on the season, and heads to Maine with a trip to the Garden on the line. More importantly, it’s being done with an extremely young team that returns next year, including a transfer goalie that MS7 brought in. But now we aren’t happy with where we are because it didn’t happen fast enough? So instead of celebrating the fact we have a 20 win team that has one of the highest home attendance figures in the nation, we are unhappy and want to blow up the rebuild even though it’s finally moving in a good very, very good direction. Why are we living in the past? A couple of people here aren’t enjoying this season because the Cats didn’t win by enough in this game or lost more faceoffs in that game. I challenge anyone on this board who can honestly say that back in September, they would not be happy with a 20 win season, trip to Maine in the quarters and a Top 20 ranking all year. You want to run a strong HE Coach of the Year candidate out on the heels of the most successful season in over a decade - for who? An unknown guy floating around without a team right now? I know, in perspective, it’s the same five people posting on here and I’m not minimizing that. But you have to realize there is a large majority of Cat fans who are enjoying this season and really soaking in the most exciting team that has called the Whitt home in a long time. And also looking forward to the future with this team and this staff.
