  • Ohio State 2023-2924 Sixty Years and Still Waiting for a Natty!

This season is the sixtieth anniversary of our program and although we've had spurts of achievements we've yet to win a National Championship.
One of my friends was on our very first team and is in his 80's now and all he wants before his time is up in this world is to see us win the Championship. I have no predictions on how good we'll be this season but I sure hope my friend isn't disappointed again.

    If it takes until 2924 . . .
My guy is a hard-nosed hockey player who is not afraid to crash the net. Your guy is a goon who runs the goalie.

Kinda surprised those OSU teams of The Early-80's (Jamie Macoun, The Pooley Brothers etc.) did not bring home a natty. Back in the days before RPI rankings back room dealings doled out at-large bids. CCHA was not well respected at that time and only Conference champs (Usually BG and/or MSU) got tourney invite......Those Buckeye teams could have made some noise in tourney!

Sure The old OSU Rink scared ECAC and WCHA teams from visiting! Lol.

This year could be pretty rough. They lost the two best Defensemen they hand Dobes in net. Also losing an assistant didnt miss a beat in replacing Miller will be tough to replace as well who Those guys are going to be tough to replace without taking a step back. The Coaches picked them 7th and personally I have them 6th.

Somebody doing the polls must be on drugs. We won our opening game on the road and the USCHO poll drops us a spot? But that's not the main issue.
Providence beats Michigan at Yost and they jump 5 spots from 18th to 13th which is insane. I've can't remember anyone moving up 5 spots for a single win at Yost and it was a split series as well. We've swept at Yost and never got such ranking love, go figure!

Definitely a head-scratcher when it comes to polls. I am not sure what kind of season Mercyhurst will have, but any time you can score three goals in the third period to come from behind and win, that should be rewarded, not punished, when it comes to polls.

The other weird thing it's an away & home series with Mercyhurst but we don't have them at home until Dec.30

We got the win on our home opener but that was expected although Lindenwood had a pretty decent goalie.
Late in the 3rd Lindenwood's frustration was becoming evident and I was getting worried someone would end up with a completely unnecessary injury.
Steve Piotrowski, head of Big Ten hockey officiating was at the game no doubt evaluating his crew which I thought did a good job.

Tough to not get a sweep at home against Lindenwood. Next weekend will tell an awful lot about whether this will be a major rebuilding year (we seem to have them every three or four years) or if this team is ready to compete for a tourney bid.

Michigan split against Providence and UMass the past two weekends so they definitely are not the team they were last season. I don't see why we can't take at least one game at Yost next weekend.

I wouldn't be surprised at a split...though I was surprised with Michigan's splits the last 2 weeks. Goaltending is not where it was last year. Conditioning and discipline need work. Spent too much of Saturday vs. Umass on the PK. Allowed them to get back into a game where Michigan was looking good. The previous week Sunday game vs. Providence we were up 5-1 late in the 3rd and barely hung on to the 5-4 win. I've learned 2 weeks into the season that no lead is big enough/comfortable this year.

I appreciate the honest and apparent unbiased opinion. We all know anything can happen in hockey but my honest opinion is I don't have a handle on how good or how bad Ohio State is this season to be totally confident how we will do against Michigan on their home ice. You can't beat the home team atmosphere at Yost.
By the way WT, how's the parasite? It's hard to imagine how fast she's probably grown up.

The parasite is 4 and a lot of fun/less parasitic these days. I was excited when she actually wanted to wear a hockey jersey to the game a few weeks ago.

The Yost atmosphere will be a little different this weekend. The marching band is headed to East Lansing for football, so it will be the alumni band both nights. I'll be curious to see the crowd (or lack thereof) Saturday as football @ MSU is at the same time and most Michigan fans pick football over hockey.
