I don't know where it compares with other HE teams but Alfond is the new Whitt or Tsongas. Yes, BC won the shootout but tough getting an actual W up there. With that said I don't know who is going to beat Main up there this year. They are absolutely legit. Credit to BC for scoring that late equalizer.

I don't want to take this too far but for Gauthier's size/skill I wish he had more of a well rounded offensive game. He has a lethal shot and that can carry you but I see someone like Ryan Leonard consistently driving the net and scoring goals around the crease and would like to see Gauthier incorporate that on occasion. I love Leonard's game.

Jacob Fowler continues to impress. A .924 save percentage is plenty good for this team to do damage.

Quick snapshot of Hockey East. I haven't seen every team but I think it's fair to conclude at this point that the four best teams in the conference are BC, BU, Providence and Maine. I know UNH is off to a good start but that's how I see it right now. Hockey East with 6 in the PWR field right now. I think the four I mentioned will be there in the end. I need to see more from UNH and UMass to become a believer. Merrimack is absolutely not the same team they were last year.

Interesting to see you guys talk about Perreault's dad as Gabe is currently playing wing.

I just looked up the faceoff stats and Maine is now #1 in country. I guess the question would be is that because they played BC twice. Ha.

What's glaring is that Will Smith has been absolutely horrendous on faceoffs. Just 38%. If you like him positionally at center I'm not sure what the solution is other than him working on it in practice. Or see if Ryan Leonard can do any better. Gasseau has won 18 of his 25 facefoffs. Might be time to get him taking more.

Gasseau and Gauthier were good together last year I think the play might be moving Gauthier to wing on that line with Gasseau at center.

Some interesting items up for discussion for sure. I think you consider mixing up lines 1 and 3. Don’t touch the USA line.

Smith has been very quiet recently and I wonder if he’s hurt or sick or something. That being said Perreault and Leonard are the two best players on the team right now and helping keep that line going.

Cutter/Gasseau… I’d like to see them play a “heavier” game with their size. Red flag was raised for me in the DU when they disappeared and now you certainly notice they are very quiet in this stretch 5x5 and need to use their size a bit more. No complaints from Malone who has been terrific hasn’t shown any softness.

Also hard to find fault with fourth line, they generate chances actually but obv will convert at a lower clip. Armstrong should be back soon.

Trivino has never been one of those players. Even outside of the rink, he'll say hi and is plenty of friendly, but has never been even close to saying or doing anything inappropriate.

          Excellent points about Cutter’s line.

I was not overly impressed with Maine, except for their goalie who was excellent. Don’t be surprised if they get swept by BU next weekend.

BC as if often the case this time of the year turns the puck over a lot in the neutral zone. That gave Maine all of their offense. They have to clean that up to create distance from the better teams.

What was Armstrong’s injury? The 4th line has gotten caught in their own zone a lot. It will be interesting to what difference Armstrong brings to that line.

          Go Eagles!

All of Maine’s offense came from those turnovers. I know it is November, but they have to start to clean that part of their game up.

I don't think it is just now but a pattern for a long time which includes last year. Turnovers and penalties are nothing new to BC. But this year there is more talent and depth.

It is up to the coaches to fix this problem and the players who must stay disciplined. Mistakes happen but they can minimize those mistakes.

Listening to Powers on the BC broadcast he also mention the consistant mistakes on BCs part and at times lazy plays of players which lead to problems. One thing good is not being ranked #1 should motivate the team to play better and to never let up and make good decisions with the puck.

Gauthier is terrible at faceoffs and does not fight through the pick afterwards. No way will an NHL team let him near Center at this stage, but he also is not particularly strong along the boards, despite his size. I agree with putting him on the wing, as he would improve with repetitions there. Jellvik could play center perhaps, as his passing and skating have really improved.
Most of Gauthier’s goals have been on the PP, from memory. Even his entries into the offensive zone are a struggle. He needs to think pass and skate, looking for a give and go. None of this is to take away from his incredible shot, but I feel he has more to give, and needs to be coached to improve in these other areas.

Well that was another interesting one. Nice job by the Uconn player to basically score on his own net in OT. Huge credit to Jellvik for that slick move there to get in all alone right before the goal.

Conversion rate on Grade A chances (of which there are a ton as you would expect with a team this talented) remains remarkably low.

Most of these games could/should be blowouts after 20 mins given how well they start games. Especially against a team like Uconn, probably the worst team in the league and one of the worst teams in the country.

Really terrible second period. Like terrible terrible.

                    • It is maddening to see them play that well in the first period and then do the complete opposite in the second. Hockey East is tough this year. If you sleepwalk through a period the way BC did last night against anyone, you will not like the result. At least they came back afterwards and managed to eke out the win and hopefully learned a lesson and follow up with more of a 60 minute effort tonight.

                      • I forget what the PWR breakdown is for an OT win but even just for HE standings you want to win at home against a bad UConn team in regulation. Still, very important to just get the OT win and move on.

I liked his answer at 1:40 mark. Every now and then you gotta rip into these guys. And last night's 2nd intermission was the time for that. Hoping for a more complete 60 minutes tonight.

                          Pretty sure it’s 2/3 of a W.

                          • 2/3 of a win and at home it’s 80%…. So 53% of a win in the PWR

                              • UConn had many prime scoring opportunities but Fowler was the difference

It's a young team and learning to minimize mistakes in their end and they didn't take the 2nd period off tonight
