We have been saying for years we needed scoring and while we have yet to get that 20 goal guy the team as a whole has made big strides this year

    Goals scored per game
    2024 3.1
    2023 1.9
    2022 1.7
    2021 1.5

And they did it without sacrificing the defense.

    Goals against
    2024 2.3
    2023 2.7
    2022 2.9
    2021 3.2

Rather than one 20 goal guy there are 21 players who have scored goals

Discouraging loss last night. Dartmouth got more goals against us than they did against Maine, UConn and UNH combined. They had a ton of blocked shots, but it seemed like that was a result of us taking ill advised shots when the shooting lane was blocked. We haven't had many power play goals, but at least, early in the season, we were getting excellent chances. Last night, it looked terrible. No more non-conference games, yet Mangbo and MacKenzie haven't played a minute. Meanwhile, next opponent Northeastern just tied #3 QU. They may be in last place, but they're clearly over their early season difficulties and playing well now.

That third period was unbelievably unhinged. That 4th goal (Miotto's second) might be the worst goal call I've ever seen haha

Gotta be better closing out games and cutting down on the penalties but a win's a win.

Northeastern has no one to blame but themselves for not having a camera that can show the whole blueline, come on replay has been around for years. Maybe spend less money on a huge scoreboard and a few bucks on proper replay cameras. Reminds me of the game I went to at BC not long after the replay rules were started and UVM scored but the refs said they didnt and the BC rink was unable to get the video system to work only later to find out the video clearly showed VT had scored.

As rare as it to see VT score 3 goals so fast was seeing Gabe give up a softie.

First of all, UVM deserved to win so no argument there. But I do take you to task on your comment, which doesn't seem to grasp the underlying issue. The replay cameras did indeed show the whole blueline. The issue is that a UVM attacker was so far inside the blue line (down below the tops of the circles) when the puck crossed that he was out of range. The blue line cameras are positioned to show the blue line--not the entire attacking zone.

Beyond that, replay camera positioning and related replay requirements are prescribed by the league. AFAIK, Northeastern's video setup is in full compliance.

The ruling was that the initial onside ruling could not be reversed because of a lack of "clear and convincing evidence" that the play was offside. (Because the offside player was so far offside that the blue line cameras could not pick him up). Bizarre, to say the least.

Not making any accusations here but it has been alleged that the linesman on the blue line is a UVM grad. Again, no accusations but not a good look if true.

Disappointed in the loss on Saturday. Completely dominated the 1st period but came away with no goals. Can’t score 1 goal and expect to win. They were the better team possession wise most of the night.

To make the call for offsides the camera needs to show 2 things, first when does the puck enter the zone and when does the player and the replay angle they showed on the ESPN+ broadcast wasn't able to do that leaving part of the blueline blind maybe they had other looks. I dont see how any camera that showed the whole line could not be backed up 1 second or 1 hour to show when a player entered the zone and that the puck had not yet entered.

For all of the above, "NU needs a new replay system that shows the whole blue line", we were joking that the guy was so far inside the line, he may as well have been hiding behind the net, therefore he wasn't visible in the replay, and the goal should be confirmed.....

Even Mark Divver posted on X, something to the effect of, "the only thing to be confirmed in the review was whether he was 5 feet offside or 10 feet offside"........

This, coupled with BU being allowed to have 4 guys playing against 3 for NU for a chunk of overtime, makes me think there is something fishy afoot. Sadly, HE is back to the same old story with their officiating, and nothing will change.

What we see on ESPN+ is the home team's video production (usually just two or maybe three cameras). My understanding is that that there are other camera positions that don't feed the local productions, i.e., officials only. But you raise a good point about the video we saw (or any other video source) not being able to be backed up more than this one was. Again, just bizarre.

By "a chunk of overtime" you mean about one second of overtime.

UVM only has two cameras for ESPN+, and there are the cameras above each goal. I believe UVM has the worst coverage of all HE teams. They have four for basketball but two for hockey. I have a friend that operates one of the ESPN cameras. The problem with that offsides is even if they backed it up you didn’t have a view that showed the player in the zone simultaneously with the other player, you can’t assume the player is still in the zone the whole time. It was a break for Vermont. The only penalty that was really questionable was the tripping call where it looked, to the ref, that our player tripped them but replay showed the player fell on their own.

So you agree that bu had too many players on the ice during the OT. Glad that’s settled, but it doesn’t help NU.

5-1 score did not reflect the game. One of those games that you can say you played well despite the loss. BU power play is deadly and was the difference. No replay on the ESPN+ feed on penalties for some reason. Seemed like some generous 5x3 calls for BU. One in the second changed the game. Hate to see that. Best UVM team in years. Love to see it. Need a pure scorer to get to the next level.
