Where are you sitting? Looks like both games are going to be a sell out.

Lovely Maine fans on both sides of me.
Carter Gylander led the team onto the ice for tonight’s pre-game warm-up.
      Albin Boija Maine’s starting goalie.
      Colgate penalty. Killed.
Beautiful Maine score by Bradly Nadeau.
      Maine penalty. Killed.

Maine 10, Colgate 4, SOG after one.
Maine 1, Colgate 0, score after one.

Colgate came out strong, but Maine got a wraparound goal by Harrison Scott.
51 seconds left in the period, Maine won the faceoff and scored their third goal (by Brian Hopkins).

Maine 28, Colgate 19, SOG after two.
Maine 3, Colgate 0, score after two.

Maine penalty. Colgate emptied the net. And Ryan McGuire scored a PPG.

Colgate penalty. Then matching Roughing penalties. Killed. Colgate emptied the net.

Maine 3, Colgate 1, final score.
Got to chitchatting with Maine fans at the end of the game, so didn’t get final SOG. We came back, but they still led that category. The third period got very chippy, which wasn’t great to see.

Apparently the ‘Gate team will bus back to Hamilton, N.Y., tomorrow night after the game (in hopes of beating the forecasted incoming snow). I will leave early Sunday morning.

My take-away is that Maine’s third- year coach, Ben Barr, has been a main reason for their turnaround. The other is two freshmen brothers from New Brunswick, Bradly & Josh Nadeau, who chose Maine so their family could watch them (only 2.5 hours from home). They are wickedly talented.

      • I think I saw you with your Colgate hat over in that section. Quiet crowd for Maine standards with no students but I thought Colgates best effort was the beginning of the second they came out on fire. They also stifled the first line. Let's see what happens tomorrow, nice seeing visiting fans in Orono I know it's a trek

        • My take on your Colgate team, they play hard and are a lunch pale scrappy bunch....goaltender was your mvp last night as he kept your team in the game with quality saves.....he looks to be a type that could steal a close game on any given might...kudos to him...I look for Maine to come out hard tonight and push there speed all night long, they could very well wear Colgate down by the 3rd period.

Ben Barr has been a main reason for their turnaround… you are correct I wish he was behind the bench at his alma mater. We had him but decided to go in a different direction lol. It’s worked out well for RPI. Nadeau boys are Elite.

It was nice chatting with you last night. You are a special college hockey fan. I appreciate your devotion to college hockey, based on the huge number of rinks you have visited all over the country. I didn't realize Colgate had such a small student population (1500). It was cool that you were sitting right behind the Nadeau family. You have good young team and goal tender. good luck the rest of the season.

              • Not to nitpick but Colgate has 3000 students, last night was their first game in six weeks. Hopefully they play better tonight and don't run out of gas. I thought UMaine had a ton of talent, I still remember when they were a powerhouse.

Iowa, smart waiting to leave for home tomorrow. Snow supposed to start around 3:00 pm here and the heaviest snow is supposed to be all night and taper off Sunday pm but the warning goes until 7:00 PM Sunday night. If you need a report later on let me know, I'm here every am.
It all starts with the goaltending.

                • Thanks, Shabby! From here, I am going to stay north, heading west before I drop down. I will take it easy and drive two-lane roads (which keeps my speed down).
Because Colgate never gives up, I wasn’t too concerned when we were down 2-0. But when they scored their third, I felt it was over. Shots and obviously goals weren’t coming easy for us. Pulling Gylander for an extra attacker on the power play was brilliant. But, too little too late.
I will go to today’s BC at Maine women’s game, then take in the rematch. But, we are still PWR#42 and they are still PWR#1. he he he

                  • I watched last night’s game on ESPN+. The Maine announcers had good things to say about us despite being on the losing end of the game.

They said we were the better team in the 2nd period despite being outscored 2-0, and that the team should be frustrated going into the locker room at the 2nd intermission. I would agree - it looked like we were shaking off the rust from the 5 week layoff in the 1st.

Also they mentioned that we only dressed 5 defenseman and 14 forwards - apparently the 5 weeks off wasn’t enough time for our injured players to heal? Ouch.

Anyways - onto the next game, and hopefully some better luck tonight.

                    • Rainman… I don’t remember seeing Sebastian Tamburro last night.

Runsub5… I lied to you last night… Colgate’s enrollment is 3,219. I just looked it up.

And Carter Gylander was his usual self… he kept us in the game. Maine’s goalie, Albin Boija, was outstanding. He is a freshman from Sweden.

'Gate's starting goalie was waaaay better than was Maine's.

Maine will work on that, but Colgate played with grit.
