Yeah that one would sting a bit if true.

I got to see the Spartans for the first time today. They're as talented as advertised, and of course at times showing their youth. There were some questionable passes turned into giveaways in the last half of the game, but their ridiculous edge in face off % balanced that out. 2 1/2 minutes to pull a goalie may now be the norm, but it's also questionable when you're behind in that phase of the game so much. It's nice to convert the empty-netter.

Also, #5 Levshunov is a beast at 17 years old.

The defensive lapses by the youngsters had me wondering why Crossman (Brown transfer) wasn't inserted in the line-up for more experience and whether perhaps he's injured. Someone who listens to the coach's show or reads more team press might know.

I was curious about that as well. Competition for playing time on this roster is very stiff though. I suppose we’ll see if there are any lineup changes this week. I’m glad our schedule starts off on the light side for a while. We’ve got so many new and young faces that they could use an adjustment period before the real meat of the schedule.

I thought the team really flashed at times, though. Not as in sync as last year’s squad but really buzzed out there. The transfers in the lineup looked like great additions, as well. Lebster and Savage really stood out to me.

A lot you can say about Leshynov. He flashed but made some mistakes Saturday but Sunday he felt like a dominant force. It seemed like he was so often in the mix and impacting the play and he got a lot of playing time reflecting that. Should be an exciting year watching the young man.

Yeah, Levshunov was everything as advertised on Sunday. Dude is a monster that can make plays. I really hope we get him for more than a season.

Agreed on the general point about the chemistry not quite being there yet, but the talent upgrades are obvious. Savage was everywhere and Ike had flashes. Tip of the cap to Lebster, too. It felt like that dude was in on every play.

Good weekend for Augustine, too. Rebound control was a bit iffy, but he also made some very good saves.

Yes thanks for mentioning Lebster; he was around the net alot and wasn't afraid to get dirty. It's clear he likes being back in Michigan and remembers why he initially chose MSU.

On to the next pair - I guess you could say the Spartans need to elevate their game

Coming back in the 3rd period against AFA like that shows a healthy mentality, and speaks positively about the mindset of players and adjustment by coaching staff.

However, clearly, the more experienced team showed up for the majority of the game last night. It didn't help that in a 180 from the previous weekend, State was absolutely killed in the faceoff circle.

Sounded like a case where the young defensemen made too many mistakes last night and the offense just couldn't overcome it. It wasn't too long ago getting down 0-3 in the 1st was a death sentence for MSU hockey. The fact that I had faith the offense could score enough to overcome it is an exciting change. Hopefully a bounce back effort tonight, I predict a 4-2 win.

Yes - not to mention dealing with an immediate response from the cadets with a goal of their own about 15 seconds after State broke through, then going down 5-1. Normally leaves any team reeling.
A positive last night is we got to see what Di Pasquo was all about.

                      Speaking of response ...
Spartans really opened it up. More speed from the forwards this year and it was on display last night. We got a top line too in Mueller - Larson - Savage that could put up league-leading big numbers. It was nice to see a couple new faces too in game #4.

Larson and Savage are tied for second in the nation in points.

In other words, that line has been fantastic so far this season.

Can't wait to see the nation's leader in penalty minutes playing for Canisius this weekend.

Griffin Loughran was whistled for 21 in the Friday night loss at Miami, and sat out Saturday due to a check from behind included in that total.

Canisius has three MSU transfers and I'm sure they'll be motivated to perform well. It kind of feels like a trap series to me. Really can't start slow like we did last Thursday against Air Force.

One of those transfers, Loughran, has been a certified goon so far. Dude might be out head-hunting this weekend.

CHN says that Humphreys is down to Michigan and Mercyhurst. Although Chris Heisenberg hasn't put that strike-through on his name quite yet. He would be the top of the list as far as 2024-25 incoming talent goes.

I unfortunately had a dream last night indicating we lose tonight’s game 14-9. Really gotta get turnovers and goaltending figured out!
