I am not telling you anything that you don't already know. Presidents of colleges and universities ultimately report to the Board of Trustees. If a president refuses a large targeted donation, that's fair game to be escalated to the Board of Trustees. If the Trustees won't intervene or are unable to work out a solution, then you have a bigger problem than whoever the president might be.

As for other schools, here is an example of what I am talking about. It doesn't take much reading between the lines to see that some negotiations and creativity were needed, even with a generous lead donor.

She came from a school where hockey is the top dog and where her former boss is heavily involved and regarded in hockey both at BU and in HE. He recommended that she pursue the RPI job. She has been extremely visible and has attended every women's and men's home game ...as has Marty. I don't have any concerns over her priorities or the mission that the Prez has presented to her. The fact that the facilities study of HFH is already underway is a good indicator of the seriousness IMO.

Agreed. I personally didn't have any expectations for the weekend, but we certainly didn't play well and Maine was hitting on ALL cylinders -- credit to them.
The early N/C schedule is a meat grinder for RPI ....hopefully the team will learn and grow as they gain experience and chemistry prior to league play. Time will tell.

          That makes sense.

Well, we know that the hockey coach position was endowed via a donation during Shirley's tenure. There were also many targeted donations associated with the ECAV project. However, I also had a conversation about a decade ago with the Colonel during an event and I asked him about doing something with the East end of the Field House. That was about the time they tore out the stage and the seats at that end. He said they were close to getting a donation toward it (he might have said $5M but that may also be my faulty memory) but it fell through. He didn't say why.

                  • Mid week odds for the weekend

Football RPI is a 20.5 Favorite over St. Lawrence on the road (probably a bit high since we never seem to play really well up there)

Hockey- our girls are a 0.5 goal favorite over Dartmouth (predicted score close to 2-2) on the road but a 0.5 goal underdog to Harvard (predicted score 3-2 against).
our boys are 1.5 goal underdogs both at BC and providence with predicted scores of about 4-2 against each night

Take the shortest distance to the puck and arrive in ill humor

If the SOG’s are about even and if we can stay out the box more often, then I guess I’ll take a couple of 4-2 losses.

For me it is usually all about the match ups. It appeared we had no answer for the speed of Maine's first line and we could not defend against the strength of their second. I have no idea how we will match up with either BC or Providence but I doubt we could look worse than we did for most of last weekend. Interesting though that we did get to within 5-3 in that second game before the empty net goal. i think we will live and die this season depending on our defense. We will score some goals but i worry about how many we can prevent.

                        • Congratulations to BC and Providence for 2 blowout wins. Not even sorta competitive vs hockey East. We have 8 SOG near the end of the 2nd period. Dave smiths teams have to be the worst road team ever. Sezenack look that up if Dave has the worst road record ever for a head coach at rpi. I know he’s quickly approaching most loses ever.

Yes, BC was ranked third and Providence tenth.

And the Friars might be underrated, considering they just beat second-ranked Denver tonight.

Which means that BC and Providence are good tests for RPI. Obviously, Providence passed their battle test last night. Good opportunity for the RPI team to test theirs tonight, against a nationally ranked opponent, since last night was a blow out.
I've been lost since 1989. I got a breakaway on a frozen river and have been skating ever since.

                              • The development of our defense is the key. If we are not capable of protecting our goalie from close in or near impossible saves to make, we will see more of these kinds of blow outs. We have the parts and potential to be much better than we have shown thus far, but unless we cut down on all of the goal scoring chances against us, this is going to be a really tough season. Oh, and perhaps it might help to win some of the important face offs deep in our zone??
