Hard, and unfair, to draw conclusions without hearing from the people involved. Sometimes, people are presented with fresh opportunities that provide professional growth and better pay--those can often be reasons to leave a longstanding job voluntarily. Management turnover can also cause people to consider options, even when their future boss is not yet known; that's just a feature of human behavior.

Of course, there may be other reasons; the Schenectady Gazette article Wicked Slappaahs linked made it clear that this most recent move was set in motion because of an unsuccessful attempt to gain a promotion. That can happen without leadership necessarily wanting someone to leave, especially someone who seemed like a great employee, but those risks were likely considered and those are the hard decisions that come up in any organization.
Absolutely true. Kevin's departure as you mentioned, related to his not getting the nod to be AD. Given what everyone at the school went through under the former administration, these departures have been quite honestly ongoing across the school. I believe I read somewhere that they had twenty something professorial slots to fill/hire for and several Sr. level admin. jobs as well. I do know that a large portion of the Development office left RPI over the last several years....draw your own conclusions from that......Kevin is joining some of them at Alb. Law, as the article mentions.

I also am very confident that they hired the right leader to get the ship turned around and that work is well underway.

BTW not only Ithaca, but usual culprits of Union and Hobart await and both will be severe tests. i know the competition played by the Liberty League teams has not been top notch but Union and RPI and Hobart have steamrolled the competition and Union in particular being undefeated and almost unscored upon also mauled Springfield which has not been a walk in the park for other teams and was a ranked team when they beat them yet none of these LL teams get even a single vote nationally. Ithaca has gotten some votes but has one loss hung on them.
Quick update - Union got 3 votes this week and we got 1. I am at least satisfied that they got a mention. Utica moved up to be ranked 17th so the LL is now represented a bit more. Will know a lot more about our football fortunes in 2 weeks when we face Ithaca. And our hockey season will have started so I can devote virtually all my attention to what I hope will be a promising season.

When I first read this I thought you meant hockey because I just read a thread stating that Utica was considering going D-I in hockey. https://fanforum.uscho.com/forum/col...nubs-d-baggery BTW, does anyone know if new teams can currently go D-I in a single sport?

They cannot. The only exception is the schools grandfathered in (RPI, Union, CCT, etc) and the D2 play up schools are allowed to because there is no D2 championship in hockey

Ithaca jumped four places in the d3football poll, even though they did not play a game last week.

Their close victory over Endicott earlier in the season gained considerable status after the previously lightly-regarded Gulls upset #5 Hardin-Simmons.

I gave up on that on this thread years ago especially with regard to football. I, for one, think winning football games is not the proper thing for Engineers to do. :-D

It's only the recruit thread that I try to keep pure now, and recently I have ignored some transgressions there. :-)
