Strand Announces Signing of Ten Student-Athletes - Minnesota State University - Mankato Athletics (msumavericks.com)

10 new players and four new coaches and all that needs to be replaced is a combined 91 goals and 161 assists from last year's squad. Hard to make a solid prediction other than to say things will be interesting. Mavs obviously should take a step back but I don't see any other CCHA team stepping up to be the bonafide cream of the crop.

Anyone care to make an early prediction? I'll say a third place conference finish and close conference semifinal loss.

Hard to tell how they'll do. There are some who played for Strand in Sioux City, and others who will reunite with former teammates. The coaching staff is new to the program but Strand hired his guys so it should be a cohesive staff. So overall, I'm cautiously optimistic the Mavs will be at or near the top, especially if they can get through another tough out of conference schedule.

Luke Strand interview on local media (KEYC). Sounds like he's focused on building on the culture Hastings established and adding his mark. Tough schedule to open the season (St Cloud, NoDak, UMass) should tell a lot about this team.

          Hastings interview?

Getting rid of that muscle memory is going to take a bit.

I think we're all cautiously optimistic. I expect some missteps along the way until everybody, coaches, players and fans get accustomed to the new regime. Hopefully the team will be on the same the page by the Holidays. No research on this but suppose Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan will try to take charge this year. And I expect big improvement from St. Thomas again.

              Other thoughts?

One Last comment on Hastings, then I'm dropping it.

When he turns the Wisconsin program around, and we all are sure that he will, I hope he knows where to send his first Thank you card: The MSU Athletic Department.

                There, I feel better already!

St Thomas is the program to watch. There's a great rivalry there- especially with the home and home weekends.

I'd have to pick Tech as the pre-season favorite, especially since they'll have the best goalie in the conference. Northern Michigan will have to show that they can play consistently all season.

Don't sleep on Ferris State, they showed improvement last year. Expect Augustana to keep Lake State out of last place.

Going to find out a lot about the Mavs through the first six games. If they can come out of that 0.500 or better I'll feel great. Hopefully the fan support stays strong, planning on going to the opener, Saturday UMass game and hopefully one of the Tech ones over Thanksgiving weekend.

Mavs starting to put the off season behind them. There's a different kind of anticipation about this season.

CCHA podcast had Strand on (about 15:00 min in).
