Their whole first line (and really only spectacular line) basically bolted to the pros, and their starting goaltender and far and away best defenseman (Thrun) the last few seasons graduated. Lack of talent and historically poor coaching has also caught up to them this season, but their one win is at Lynah...because of course

      • Looks like we'll have Macklin back for Friday's game.

He'll be back, but I wouldn't expect him to dress in an exhibition game.

Plus, these exhibition games with Canadian teams tend to be a little 'thuggish' and chippy, so no need to provide them with an attractive target to run at...... Macklin gets targeted more than enough in our regular season games.

I'd expect the coaching staff will use this game to give ice time to those players that are close to earning a shot at more regular play (Frechette, Harvey, and I'd expect to see Lacroix for at least some of the game).

            • I would definitely sit Macklin for the full game. I wouldn't expect Caron to play more than a period, if anything at all, only to ensure he doesn't go into the NU game with 10 days off.
              ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

              • So, BU players will come home with a gold and a silver - just wondering which one Hutson gets and which one Willander gets.

The real question is this: Do we want all those Eagles to have Gold? : ) : )

                  Go Sweden. ; )

                  • Of course you do. All these kids are terrific and what I like most is their determination.

I don't expect to see "thuggish" behavior from SFU. It's an NCAA member--the only one from Canada--seeking to become a Division 1 Independent and behavior like that wouldn't help them get on D1 schedules.

I'd imagine we'll see Gorton, Page and Lacroix on the ice tonight, as well as Harvey and Frechette. Frechette acquitted himself very well against Yale, getting his first point, seeing some time on the PK and delivering the hit of the night. He deserves to be in the line-up at least in a few games, but at who's expense?

According to one Gopher fan in the World Juniors thread, perhaps Lane Hutson since he can't play defense. *insert eye roll here*

I wasn't going to go tonight, but decided it was an opportunity to have a beer with a friend and hang out with 1,000 hockey lovers.

I'd have to say I thought Lane's defensive play was a little shaky in Sweden. He got stripped several times while starting a rush out of the D-zone that led to offensive opportunities for opponents. He also looked a little lost and got pushed around in the US net front. Hard to tell what David Carle was expecting Lane's role to be, but it seemed he was being told to create attacks and, once there, be the play-maker with his terrific passing skills.

The World Jrs isn't the NHL, but the talent pool is more uniformly higher than of D1 college play. Lane is still growing physically, and maybe he could do well with yet another year in the NCAA to add more growth and strength before jumping to thee pro level.

I'm looking forward to tonight as well. I think we'll learn some things, and that's always good.

                          • Big fight at the end of the USA-Sweden involving Lane Hutson. He got bloodied but he did not back down. Not that I am advocating for fighting at this level...

                            • Dave Starman: "Hutson has had as good a defensive stick as any defenseman in the tournament...his defensive play is tremendously underrated."

Lane was on the ice for a combined 53:52 in the final two games. Named to the all-tournament team.

                              • I know this is an exhibition and doesn’t count (right???) but I’m not enjoying what I’m seeing here.
