Watching Gopher fans go apoplectic on twitter and Reddit over this is something to behold.
Dont get me wrong, there were always posters like that here, but I miss the cooler gopher posters that frequented here before they all f’ed off to GPL.If you want to be a BADGER, just come along with me
BRING BACK PAT RICHTER!!!
At his graduation ceremony from the U of Minnesota, my cousin got a keychain. When asked what UW gave her for graduation, my sister said, "A degree from a University that matters."
Canned music is a pathetic waste of your time.

Is there some warped belief this is a conspiracy against Minnesota schools? Or were there delusional fans who believed if each were put into separate regionals instead that all three would make it to the Frozen Four? Geographically it makes sense they're there and it's going to be some damn good hockey. None are from the same conference either, and Pairwise-wise, I don't think much was changed other than Penn State and Ohio State were moved around and there was a lower seed either Merrimack, Canisius or Colgate that was out of order.Living somewhere between North and South.

And, yes, Gopher fans, I know every fan base complains. You just have such a large fan base that it seems like there are so many.....and I like to needle you after having to put up with it for a couple of decades.Mess with the bull, you get the horns.

Based on what they do most years for regionals this what was going to happen. At least whoever comes out of this bracket will be well tested. Now hopefully I can find tickets as one quick glance saw a guy asking for 1000 for the whole weekend. Sorry but the tickets could be on the bench and I'm not paying $1k.All hockey players are bilingual. They know English and profanity. - Gordie Howe

Every time we've been the 1 or 2 seed we've been shipped out east and haven't had any advantages and have, in fact, been disadvantaged by having a road game (playing Providence in Providence). They just aren't used to having every advantage going their way in every scenario and when it doesn't they whine like a 3-year-old. Just nod and smile, it will make it much easier to deal with.

The majority of gopher fans on this site and that I know personally aren't bent out of shape about the regional. Thinking that people on Twitter or Reddit are representative of any demographic is pretty clueless.
This was clearly going to be the Fargo bracket. Swapping SCSUvMankato out east would have created 3 (4?) flights that otherwise didn't need to exist and would have been prohibitive to teams' fans that would want to try to attend. Swapping MNvCan to Allentown would have the same problem though to a lesser extent. So, this is what you get.
Personally, my preference would have been for the Gophers to play Canisius in Allentown, but w/e. Mich and DU are the only teams I really wouldn't want to see in the regional and that was an impossibility anyway.
To me this is just further evidence that the first round should be played at the higher seed's home. You eliminate the pseudo home ice advantage for lower seed's we have now; by going with straight PWR you eliminate the gymnastics the committee has to do; you get a good atmosphere for every game.

Can you add more detail to your proposal about higher seeds hosting the first round?
Are you only thinking about the round of 16, or are you thinking of the entire regional?
I'm not sure what Quinnipiac would do to host 4 teams in their area, but obviously, Minn, Mich and Den could easily do it.
Otherwise, the top 8 would all be hosting single games. Minn, Quinn, Mich, Den, BU, SCSU, Harv, Penn State. Those would all be full buildings of large size (although I don't know about Harvard). But, there could be a time when MTU or someone else would host, and then there wouldn't be as much capacity.
So, I'm really just wondering about your whole idea here. I'm sure you have one, I just would like to see what it is.
Thanks

This has come up countless times over the years and I'm now regretting bringing it up again because I'm not too keen on hearing the same tired arguments.

Selecting the best option doesn't require a perfect one.
But again, it's not my intent to derail the thread so I'll drop it.

Honestly, all in good fun.
The committee is going to do whatever they want to because they've got several so called "priorities" it allows them to customize any given situation as they see fit. I think where the legitimate question comes in, why are we so inconsistent year to year? We use a rigid pairwise system, but then we don't maintain bracket integrity. Last year they moved teams all over the country to ensure 1-8 integrity was kept. Now this year they move teams based on location and sacrifice integrity. For me, the issue of selection/placement has nothing to do with fair or unfair for only the Gophers. It's just not consistently done. I really don't think most fans are upset about getting to play rivals potentially and in Grand Forks no less. I mean frankly, nothing feels better than giving a double middle finger to ND fans while they watch us beat whomever in their rink and celebrate on their ice. We got a taste of that from Michigan this last weekend, and I was there so believe me I know how that will feel for ND fans too. Canisius might as well just come out in Fighting Hawks jerseys for the next game because they will be treated as such by that fan base. I would do the exact same in their shoes too.
I will say this much about the bracket - they gave MN a chance to exact revenge on every single team we'd enjoy beating on the way to the trophy. I mean the idea of possibly running into MNST, then maybe Denver, and if all goes well a rematch with the Wolverines. That's a dream scenario in my mind. For now, we've got our hands full with Canisius and getting back on track defensively before it's too late.
I'll cross my fingers we get a chance to meet on Saturday, I have a feeling the game would be pretty spicy given the history and that sounds fun to me.
