Lots to unpack here from the past 24 hours.
First, congrats to Norbert for identifying TvR as playing most NHL games for a not-NHL-drafted UNH alum (7th, behind Pesce 6th, Gould mentioned by lindah 5th, Leach 4th, Winnik mentioned by HR 3rd, JvR 2nd, and Langway 1st). Also, Jay Miller 8th, Lumley mentioned by lindah 9th, Bob Miller 10th, aforementioned Brickley 11th and Foegele 12th, and Hislop mentioned by lindah 13th, all NHL-drafted. Krog mentioned by Chuck also not-NHL-drafted but down the list at 21st in NHL games played by UNH alum.
And, that brings us to today’s question: Who are the two UNH alums not-NHL-drafted with second and third most NHL games played. Hint: one of these players is in the top 10 for most total points scored at UNH?
Tim Burke, another UNH Melrosian mentioned by whalers, like Umile, never played in the NHL, rather just three seasons in the AHL with the Nova Scotia Voyageurs.

I just realized I'd forgotten Mark Mowers was also not drafted (hence likely why both were 4 year players at UNH!), so I'm guessing he is either at #2 or #3 on Snives' latest list. Can't figure out the other, so have at it, folks. BTW really good questions, Snives!!

Was active in the NHLPA (maybe 'cuz he had a lot of spare time?) and looks to have drifted off into the world of finance post-retirement. Got his name on the Cup with Ray Bourque in 2001, but missed the chance to play in the inaugural season at The Whitt. Might be an interesting guy for Mike Lowry to catch up with, almost 30 years since he left Durham. Looks like he's lived a very interesting life, always on the move somewhere ...Sworn Enemy of the Perpetually Offended

Had a big season kinda out of nowhere during the year UNH played their home games in Manch while The Whitt was under construction and then had a long stint as a 4th pairing guy bouncing frequently between the AHL and NHL. Seemed to have a breakthrough year while playing for the Caps in '05/'06 in what was Alex Ovechkin's rookie season, but was out of hockey three years later.

What about (who?) the not-NHL-drafted UNH guy with a few more NHL games than Krog?Last edited by Snively65; 06-28-2023, 10:54 AM.

Muir’s longevity in the NHL must have been his reliability as a 6’4” stay-at-home D-man as he played for seven different teams. Muir must have played in the last game at Snively but I honestly do not remember him. I am assuming that he must have completed his UNH degree at some point?

I couldn't recite you the pairings for the event, but he was following the typical Umile track of upgrading his presence in the line-up as he moved from his frosh to soph season (and hockeydb.com has him in 40 games that season), and he followed that up with a breakout junior season (9G/9A) that led to his decision to leave to join the Canadian National Team. Big strong kid who could dish the physical, lug the puck out of his own zone, and made a decent pro career out of limited skills.
