Interesting story Chuck..I'd be curious to know just how Coach U feels about how things are going. Maybe someone could ask him that at the alumni coached event Thursday?
From what I hear, he will answer that question if asked, as a few fans have but, I'm not spilling those beans...
Thought about going as I am an acquaintance of the field hockey coach but it's pretty early in the morning and just where will I park, lol...

BC women lax lose to a very strong Northwestern team, and Darius how 'bout those 48 consecutive win Sooners!!!
    Eighth seeds, right? Pathetic.

    Aw, c'mon. Please?

I watched the seventh inning as it happened. Epic comeback. Surprising, but not shocking. I could have delayed something to stay home and watch the extra innings, but didn't bother. Fait accompli.
I will not be out cheered in my own building.

Speaking of the Red Sox, if I heard Tom Caron correctly a few moments ago, he was interviewing a bunch of Wakefield students celebrating their senior prom at Fenway tonight. No mention of MS7.

Hearing UNH transfer David Fessenden isn't transferring to UMass after all, thus the Minutemen are forced to accelerate Hrabal

              The rest of the tweet:

"Rumors UNH might be playing some dirty pool with Fessenden's transfer. Would be a drastic move to keep a player from a conference rival"

So what could this so called "dirty pool" be? If he wants to go can UNH or MS7 stop him? Asking as I have no clue how the rules work with the portal.

              • Guessing it would have to do with transfers within HE, and UNH not giving the waiver that is often given to players.

Can you transfer to another conference and receive a scholarship?

Some conferences even prohibit athletes from receiving an athletic scholarship or being eligible at all if they transfer within the conference. Who the rules apply to are also different depending on the conference.
Are there any exceptions to transfer rules in a conference?

Be sure you know what rules apply to you if you plan to transfer within a conference because these rules often cannot be waived and have no exceptions. You will need to talk to your athletic department directly to get answers on your conference transfer rules.
But on reading DeltaBravo, it also is possible that UNH is asserting Fessenden used up his one transfer because he entered the portal before Alabama-Huntsville officially dropped the program, and perhaps that second grad transfer is not automatic as it would be for the first grad transfer. https://www.2adays.com/blog/ncaa-tra...he-difference/
Athletes competing in the aforementioned sports must apply for a waiver, or sit out a season once they transfer (unless they are graduate transfers, in which case, they receive immediate eligibility).

                • Wondering if they are arguing to the NCAA that he already used his transfer so would have to sit out a year to transfer a second time. May be arguing that his transfer was not due to COVID shutting down UAH so he shouldn't be able to move freely a second time. Either way, getting in the way of a 5th year player leaving is pretty scummy and sends out a very bad signal to potential recruits. Think what you want about the more open transfer allocation but this is essentially a grad transfer and UNH is allegedly standing in the way. Not a good look of the rumors are true.

At the end of the day, isn't this arguably a compliance issue? Is the AD complicit?? If so, are MS7's days numbered???

So, maybe both MS7 and AD Rich will be sacked?

I'm sure if UNH is playing the card they have a legitimate gripe, the question becomes "just because you can, should you?" Pulling this does more to damage the UNH program than it does to help. I would say it's nearly a 100% fact that Fessenden is not playing for UNH next season regardless of the outcome. Also, Fessenden playing for UMass does little to nothing in terms of what happens to UNH next season. Even if you somehow manage to get him to play next season under the guise of "it's either us or no one", I don't see that being a good situation for anyone. What is there to gain from this aside from sticking it to UMass (or Fess) at the expense of looking like a petty douche canoe?

Edit: You can argue having Chase Stevenson transfer to Merrimack would be more directly able to alter UNHs results this coming season and that was not a problem.

I can't even begin to imagine a newbie like Rich would lose her job over something like this, but it does not reflect at all well on her compliance expertise, and she could get her wings clipped/wrist slapped as a result. Losing ANY face with the UNH admins (or beyond in NCAA-land) would not be a good thing for her personally, and with MS7 skating on thin ice already, if I were in Rich's shoes, that's all I would need to pull the plug on MS7's return. But that's just me ...

This gives a whole new meaning to GUNHer's "Messy Fessy" tag, and for all the reasons outlined above, entirely avoidable. I wonder if AD Rich realized after the fact that this was a compliance issue, since she is new, and was not here when Fessenden first transferred in, so she thought nothing of the transfer to UMass until it came to her attention that this was a second transfer?? If so, shame on UMass as well if something was not in order, as they should have known of any rules violation as well if they'd done even basic homework on Fessenden's D-1 career?

The Stevenson thing crossed my mind too, but his situation is more comparable to Benedict van Riemsdyk, being a first-time, non-COVID move for a fifth season of eligibility to an in-conference destination.

Regardless, it certainly doesn't give the impression UNH Athletics (certainly Hockey) is a well-oiled machine, does it?

                              • The internet is chock-full of finger-pointing, but part of me wants to play devil's advocate and assume the UNH had a definite issue regarding Fessenden's eligibility question.

If not...and if this was indeed "dirty pool" on UNH's part....then this is a huge embarrassment of McCloskey-like proportions to the program . Someone is going to have to take the fall.......
