My NHL picks have been radioactive this Spring, with Carolina finally meeting its match, there's no claim to any insight here this time around. If you're a Bruins' fan, who do you root for now? Keith Tkachuk and the evil Florida Panthers, or Coach Cassidy's Vegas Golden Knights? Not that I have a dog in this fight, but don't you almost have to root FOR Coach Cassidy, against the evil in-conference rival Panthers? Or do you take some solace in the argument that the B's pushed the Panthers to 7 games, and neither Toronto (5) or Carolina (4) even came close?
FWIW 'Ref ... you tried to draw a serious parallel between the 8th seed Panthers and a future MS7-coached UNH team, kind of as an inspiration thing. I get what you're trying to say, but keep in mind (1) Florida won the President's Cup last year - best RS record in the NHL - so they were not your typical #8 seed; (2) NHL 8 seeds tend to be over .500 teams, not cellar-dwellers like our recent 'Cats have been; and (3) there are no Keith Tkachuk, Sasha Barkov or Sergei Bobrovsky comparisons currently skating for UNH. Just because HEA goes through the charade of their MBPGEGAM "playoffs" doesn't make the bottom of the HEA barrel comparable to an NHL 8th playoff seed that was only as low as 8th because of underperforming for the first 4 months of the season.
But it's Souza's ship he's riding to the bottom, so he gets to handle the messaging ...Last edited by Chuck Murray; 05-25-2023, 09:57 AM.Sworn Enemy of the Perpetually Offended

The UNH hockey coaching tree is a weed compared to the UNH football version.

As for development, you may be right. I've always railed against great teams being development machines, ignoring that they get all the great players and probably have the same development percentage as a bad team that gets bad players. Think Alabama football as an example.
But they do get more exposure, and in a word of mouth sport, probably get more opportunities. Mac Jones at U.Illinois is a fourth round pick.
Right now the NCHC and Big 10 seem all the rage.
