    That's been a loooong time.

I was at Killington that night, and we watched until it was (maybe) 6-2, Maine, then went out; we figured that deal was done. We were stunned to see the result later that night.

Still, that season had a very happy ending.

The only blemish on '93 was that game, and that's just another reason to hate BU, if Maine fans need yet another one.

    :P

I was at the game, although at the end BU was defending (as that's where Maine put visiting team fans). It was a great night as a BU fan.

It was BU's second 4 goal comeback at Alfond in a row, as the cameback from 4-0 down to tie Maine 4-4 a year before on 31 January 1992 (I was also at that game).

      Good times.

Ah yes, you were sitting under the metal bleachers (student section). Gets a little loud there with fans pounding there feet above you!! I had season tickets right next to the visitors section.

        • Robert Kincaid to Canisius. Good luck to him but he was the odd man out here.

Grew up in Maine and was at that game at 11 years old. Quite a memorable season for me as a kid, starting with sitting on the bench with the underclassmen that season (Kariya and the Ferraro twins) for the Blue/White game, meeting Walsh and Gendron, and ending with the natty.

Funny enough, I ended up going to BU and am a die-hard Terrier fan. But I still pull for the Black Bears, as long as they’re not playing BU!

            • Quininpiac wins national championship. Maine one of three teams to beat them this season.

              • I don't want to troll on a MN thread tonight, so I won't.

But I sure feel all happy inside... VERY happy!!!

(Older Maine fans will appreciate that.)

                • How in the world did Maine Beat Quinnipiac, must be what happens when you play down THAT far

Exactly! Quinnipiac didn't "show up " for that game way back in October.

                    • The ‘02 loss to Minnesota in St. Paul just months after Shawn died is by far the worst loss as a sports fan. So any time Minnesota loses is a sweet day!

                      • Two years ago today Maine lost a second hockey coach, and I lost another mentor, to a medical catastrophe. I know people were disappointed in the results on the ice, but no one felt it more than him. After a particularly difficult loss in 2017 I saw him in the bowels of Alfond Arena leaning against a wall, staring at the ceiling, sadness and frustration etched on his face. He saw me and tried to change his expression but I'd already seen. Told him I remembered that feeling from Providence in '92 and assured him better days were ahead. There are many things that depress me about what would happen in March of 2020, but that the team was robbed of a chance at a Hockey East title and an NCAA tournament appearance is up there.

                        Thanks for everything, coach.

Jeremy Swayman pointed to the sky today from his net in Philly after the Bruins won their record-breaking 63rd game of the season. In his postgame interview, with some tears in his eyes, Swayman noted how much he owed his mentor, Red Gendron

Seemed as though the fix was in, on what was essentially MN's home-ice that day... The OT officiating was, um, "suspect".

Since then, I've watched a ton of Minny games, and have relished every Goof loss.

Last night was particularly enjoyable, though.
